i have cable tv straight connection to the back of the tv (no box) and i also have a HD local channel receiver. My problem is i have an attick antenna that is to be connected to the receiver box however it does not reach of course so what i did is got a splitter to connect the over the air antenna and the cable line in order to watch HD local channels with the box and cable but the problem is some of the cable channels get distorted that way. How can i do this without distoring the signal?

You need an RF switch to switch between the two antennas (cable and over-the-air).

But if you have cable, why connect up the antenna to the TV at all (it still must go to the HD receiver)? The HD box should have either an HDMI, Component, S-Video, or Composite Output that can go in your TV through a Video Input while the cable can go to your TV RF Input.

If you still want to have the antenna connect to the TV, the link below is a fancy switch at Radio Shack; I think they also have a manual one that is about half this price.

If your cable company does not have HD signal available so you can get an HD cable box, then you will need to get a satellite dish that has HD available. All that over the air stuff will not work, unless it's satellite over the air.
