Usually, because we are trying to keep "christians" from forcing their beliefs on us through laws. That and they won't leave us alone so we always end up debating it with them.

Well, lets look at this with logic.
You would have some who might visit just to mock and ridicule.
Thats a given, and hey, no problem.
Then there are those who spend countless hours on this forum.
Why would that be? Well, If you ask them, they may say because someone has to set straight these idiots. But unless a person is on a world crusade and have given their entire life up to challenging religion, nobody would be on this forum for endless amounts of time UNLESS theres a reason for it.
Maybe a person doesn't want to admit that they are alittle bit unsure of themselves. Or, maybe the person doesn't even really know why they are doing it. Maybe they never really give it alot of thought, ,they just end up coming here.
God works in very wonderful ways, and I thank Him for every single visit of each of them.

I don't believe in Aslan or the White Witch but I've had rather in-depth discussions of the moral themes described in the Narnia Chronicals.
I don't believe in Sauron or Frodo or Bilbo or magick, but I've had rather in-depth discussions of the mythology of the Lord of the Rings.
I don't believe in the werewolves from White Wolf's "Werewolf: The Apocalypse" but my final paper in English Composition II in college was a critical analysis of the creation myths of the various Garou tribes.
I needn't believe in a thing to have an interest in it.

It is an interesting topic and all sides of an issue should be represented in a discussion.
If a Congressman doesn't believe in tax cuts, why is he always engaged in discussions about them? Because he has to present his views in order for them to be considered.

Atheists aren't afraid to learn about everything in the world. Unlike Christians.

Tell you what: Stop trying to get your dogma and morality validated by law, stop trying to force your religious myths into science, and stop supporting conservative politician who refuse to see the world as it really is and then I'll be a lot quieter. Shut down the Fred Phelpses and Pat Robertsons of the world, and maybe we'll find a common cause.

For the same reason people who don't believe in Elves and Hobbits like to discuss Lord of the Rings.

because i'm tired of all the rude people trying to force their opinion and beliefs on me. i think its very tacky how most christians have no problem telling an atheist that we're going to hell for not believing what they believe it. yet they wont respect your beliefs and expect you to accept theirs anyways.
i have no problem with christians, one of my best friends is southern baptist and we both respect each others beliefs, yet a lot of people out there seem to want to cram their religion down my throat, and thats just wrong!

For some reason they seem to be obsessed with the thought that everybody doesn't think like them. Why they care is beyond me.....unless they are trying to recruit more company for their trip to Hell.
IF they are right, when we die, nothing happens. If we are right, then they will be in deep trouble.

Theists, especially christians, try to control and restrict us based on their views. If all christians stop crusading against science, culture, art, sex and sexuality, religious freedom and such, and stop telling everybody else they're going to be tortured throughout eternity unless they join you, I assure you that you won't encounter nearly as much hostility.
