We as normal citizens, what can we do in small ways to make a big difference?

2007-02-02 05:18:37 · 21 answers · asked by Shan 1 in Society & Culture Community Service

Most of us keep cribbing about govt etc. I want to know what we as individuals can do to make a difference. Somethings like: keeping surroundings clean, following traffic rules, not giving or accepting bribes, helping someone in need, not abusing people, paying taxes, following queue, following rules.. etc etc..
Tell me some more things which i can follow to be a better Indian and helping my india to reach the heights where people say - wow.. there goes an Indian! Be proud to be an indian! :)

As Told by a IndiMan

There would have be a time in everyone's life when we think about this question but a majority of us think that this is something that millions of people would have already thought of and just ignored the thoughts.

First and foremost, where to start from? Should we start from controlling the population? Or from increasing the PCI(per capita income of the poor). Or eliminating corruption? Or reducing the difference between the rich and poor? Or correcting the politicians? Or increasing literacy? Or any other option?

All these are in a loop…An infinite loop….and everything affects one another. As each point mentioned above raises, its dependent issue increases exponentially. Infact, we have tried all these and we are still trying to reduce population, literate everyone, remove corruption (not really) etc…But one point to note is that, there are some factors that keep increasing like the difference between rural and urban parts of India. Where is Mumbai, Delhi,Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and where are the villages where people don’t even see one car a day. Why is there so much difference in people who live in the same country? Isnt there something that can be done for this? What is the right way and how do we start this?

Any thoughts?

The new technology and science tells us that the subconscious mind is five times as effective as the conscious mind. If a citizen had even double the mental power they could do anything. If citizens of India had doubled the mental power over the rest of the world, who could stop them. Learn the technology and teach it, one person to another and it won't take long. "And while all the wise men were thinking about how to do it, it was done." If people don't change there'll be not real, permanent change and change is first a mind change and it's coming. As the lady says:
"From Intellect to Intuition"
By Alice A. Bailey
This immediate access to Truth is the ultimate destiny of all human beings, and it seems probable that some day the mind itself will lie as much below the consciousness as the instincts now do. We shall then function in the realm of the intuition and shall talk in terms of the intuition with as much ease as we now talk in terms of the mind, and we will function as mental beings.

I just want you all to know that I LOVE INDIA! The best part of India is her PEOPLE. Every time I have been, the people have been too kind, more than generous, gracious, loving, sweet smiling and fair to me. Even when I was doing Business there. So,
I love India even with all the dirt and the bad smells. But I do want to comment on the issue of the cotton. The cotton of India is a very important one. It is such a beautiful cotton and Gandhi and the people of your country have worked so hard to get the reputation of Indian cotton on top. Please don't forget that. Westerners like myself KNOW that if we go into a store to buy two things made from cotton that are similar, we will always choose the one from INDIA because the cotton is better, lasts longer and is stronger and is serving a nation of nice people. Don't forget your cotton, please.

Education is the most effective tool to make a country better. We need to make education more practical and affordable. Corporate world need to unite with government to build educational institutions. Indian corporate world with exception to few, do not see this as their social responsibility. This must change.
The system should teach very fundamental and basic issues like, Civic sense, traffic sense, personal hygiene, cleanliness, community living etc. etc.

We can work as per our personality and strengths.

First of all think , what are the major problems of India.
then , we can try to solve them at our level.
For e.g.,

We can help to remove illiteracy, by making nearby people literate.
We can plant trees at nearby areas.
We can make nearby area clean.
We can buy things like cotton, which helps to sustain their prices...(Agriculture is still indian's major occupation and recently cotton 's prices are so down that farmers have produced it in large quantities, but are not getting enough price.)

A lot of work can be done,

And it depends on our thinking.....

Unfortunately Indians are trying to imitate western ways. If you went back to Vedic culture, respect the animals life, specially mother cow, and chant the Holy Names of Krishna: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna, Krishna, Hare, Hare Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama, Rama, Hare, Hare then your life will be sublime. Of course, Kali-yuga is making things bad for all of us, so that is one more reason to stick to Vedic principles.
