Your friend probably has an early Beta version of the service pack...I would highly suggest against getting it unless you are a computer expert and have a junk computer to test it on. Knowing Microsoft, there is more than likely lots of bugs that need to be fixed before it is released to the general public. The actual SP3 might be released in the latter half of this year.
