Nicotine in cigarette smoke paralyzes the cilia, or small hairs, that sweep debris out of the lungs. When you quit smoking, these cilia return to activity and have a lot of "gunk" that has accumulated while smoking to try to get out of the lungs. Thus you will have a significant but temporary increase in phlegm production.

Aren't you glad you quit? J/k... yeah, its gonna be like that for a while. When you smoke, your lungs don't get used to it. now that you have stopped, your lungs are registering foreign matter in there. It will get better, trust me.

yes,even brown flem. it`s just the build up in your lungs comming up,which is a good thing !!!
