AH HAH! EXACTLY!!! I asked a question kind of like this and just got bashed from everyone who thinks this is a forum to call people names... I am a Gordon fan (jeff) and I hate Jr, but I dont get on here and call him "over-rated" "Gay" "Redneck" "put your insult here"... I respect him, and I know his fans don't want to read that in the answers... I could not agree with you more!!!
When I ask a question on here I want answers, not name calling, and people saying "he is dumb" "because he is gay" and so on... Does that really answer anyones question??? NO!!!
I think there should be a forum where we can go and talk about nascar seriously, and a forum for all the ignorant people who just want to call names, and have very little knowledge about the sport can go sit together and type out all their feelings on why they HATE a driver who is just more successful than theirs...
Now people will flock to this question and insult you for wanting a little respect... My suggestion to you is to find that "report abuse" button, located at the end of their answer and put it to good use...

I think you can be a real NASCAR fan and bash other drivers as long as you have an good reason for why you do. I think too many driver bashers do so on emotion and ignorance. When someone says "Gordon's gay" they are regurgetating what the first Gordon basher said and it just perpetuates. But I think you can say that Kyle Petty should quit racing because he is not a very good driver and you can still be a "real" NASCAR fan. The people you root against are almost as important as the people you root for, as far as the drama and spectacle that cup racing is. It is one of the reasons that it is so popular, there are so many different drivers with all types of personalities that almost everyone can find someone that they feel they connect with or relate to better than others. Then there are drivers that just grate on your nerves that you love to hate. I just think that when people start ripping on a certain driver that they should actually be able to defend why they feel the way they do instead of saying "'cuz he is" or "because he does". I'm a huge Jimmie fan and could care less what all the haters think. They hate him without even knowing why except that he is connected to Gordon. Granted they have the best owner in NASCAR and some of the best teams in the business but they are both awesome drivers. Calling them gay isn't bashing it's just plain ignorance. That is the image that most non fans have of people that follow racing and that is what we need less of. Ignorant fans are much worse than the ones that have a valid reason for bashing a driver.

I suppose it would depend on one's definition of 'bashing'. Some good-natured heckling is, as others have said, just part of the sport. But some take it too far. Some really want something bad to happen to a driver they dislike. And this feud between Gordon fans and Earnhardt Jr. fans has definitely gone too far.
Then again, some of the people complaining the loudest about bashing, are doing a fair amount of bashing themselves.

Alright...I agree with you that all this BS about Gordon and Johnson is getting old but I disagree when it comes to real NASCAR fans don't bash other drivers. If you are a true die hard NASCAR fan then you'll bash any driver that gets in your drivers way...

I really have drivers I hate! When Gordon and Johnson crash I'm giddy I'm so happy. It's really hard to like any Hendrick or Rousch drivers because with so much money they have an unfair advantage. There are so many, I have no feelings for at all-those that always run in the back and just take up space.

If you can have a legitimate reason you hate a driver, that's one thing. But this Jeff Gordon/Jimmie Johnson gay thing is just some immature people's way of just brainlessly bashing a driver.
I have drivers I can't stand for certain reasons, and will give these reasons when the time is right. But I won't stoop to saying a driver is gay or try to find something (real or imaginary) to pull from their personal lives (unless it is something dangerous to others) to justify not liking them.

one i think your a hypocrite!
two childish works both ways.
If you would like to have a positive effect on this type of behavior then you have to be the first one to stay above it.
Usually when i hear someone bash Jeff Gordon as being gay, I ask them who they like. Many times its a Jr. fan, others its a Stewart fan, and other times its just someone random. How I usually answer this type of statement, is by telling them that, 75 wins, 4 cups, 54 poles is more then the driver they like. Just because the driver they support can't beat Jeff on the tract, doesn't mean that Jeff is Gay. It only means that Jeff is a better driver over the season that he has won.
So instead of dropping yourself below the level of the person your having your discussion with, just beat them with facts :).

I have to agree with you respect all the drivers because they have to be good to be where they are today.
Everyone has a favorite driver so they would have someone to root for.
So if you only like that driver and put all the other ones down it would be like going to the track and watching your driver go around by their self.
That would be boring so sit back or stand up and enjoy all the drivers because if it was not for them there would not be NASCAR.

The winners always get bashed, in all sports. People always hate the guys that win..and Jeff Gordon is one of the best. Everyone seems to forget, Dale Earnhardt Sr. was one of the most HATED drivers in the sport. He used to crash everyone out. The fans loved to hate him, until he got older and was chasing that elusive Daytona 500. And he losing his life in a race helped people to forget how much they hated him.

No we don't bash. How many times has Vickers caused someone else to wreck? (too many to count). Yeah you do get pissed off at the time, but, when it comes to down to the finish it's over. And when people write things that are not true, like you say, "shut up". That's what Nascar is about, the race, not personal lives. I laugh when people don't even know Nascar, or don't like it, they will jump on the "band wagon" when BS is going on. Like you said in your last line about Jr. that's bashing him, why would you even say that? Is it because you are a basher too? A REAL fan wouldn't have said that at all.
