Ooh, forget that idiot! LOL. Well, if you have to ask, go with 'No,' I shall not be offended. Just in general, as long as the term is not antiquated or derogatory, we have to just choose to get along. Some people take "white girl" or "white boy" as a compliment. When our society is still so segregated, people are going to identify one another by race. I try NOT to but then people never know who the heck I'm talking about. Just because I'm black doesn't mean all my points of reference stem from black. SoME people would like to live such limited lives, but not me. I just couldn't.

p.s. the "idiot" being the "brown" girl. she knew what the heck they were referring to!!

Good question. For that matter, why is it outrageous when a white person calls a black person the N-word but not when a black person calls another black person the N-word? If it's such a racially offensive term - which IT IS - then how come they only care when a person who's the "wrong colour" uses it? Seems kinda, I dunno, racist maybe? There are all kinds of double standards like that though. Gay people can say all sorts of things about straight people and nobody really cares. But as soon as a straight person says anything against a gay person, even if it's a valid criticism, all of a sudden they're homophobic, they're a bigot, they're a hater, etc. Or a non-religious person can say that they don't think something is right, and nobody minds, but when a Christian says the same thing, all of a sudden they're accused of being self-righteous and intolerant and judgmental. I hate double standards. Either a behaviour is right and acceptable, or it's wrong. It isn't right for one demographic and wrong for another. That's not how right and wrong work.

Whatever people say to you, it is up to you to decide HOW YOU WILL RESPOND! I would certainly take it as a compliment because I like who I am and the cultural history where I come from.
Whatever you do, when you are thankful that somebody noticed you, be glad. If they got the color wrong, or were meaning to hurt you, just ignore them (they don't understand people or their feelings).

Otherwise, DO NOT BE OFFENDED if someone calls you a white person. Because that is probably what you are! And, THAT IS A POSITIVE THING. Just as it is a POSITIVE THING being a BLACK PERSON, BROWN, YELLOW, RED!

I grew up in my church as a small person and learned this song: Red and Yellow, Black and White all are precious in GOD'S SIGHT! JESUS LOVES THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD!!!

I don't think that you should be offended for being called what you are, that's ludicrous. Also that black girl who said that she wasn't black she was brown, well as a black person, I can only hope that she was being sarcastic with you, because she is indeed black, weather she knows it, likes it or accepts it. It could be that she is confused like a lot of black people are.

I don't get offended, but I know what you mean. It's not fair we can't say "black" but they can say "white". It also depends on how it's used. When I was in college, I was walking behind 2 black girls on the way to class. I didn't know them or anything. One of them started saying stuff about how she was mad at her boyfriend because he was at a party the night before where there were white girls. She said, "and I knew they was WHITE girls there." I thought, yeah, racist, but I don't really care about people that act stupid like that.

No. If you were missing obviously the sign will say if you are black/white/brown... same here. She was describing what you look like. If she said the skinny girl with blue eyes it will be hard for someone to find you.

well when she said that you should have forever referred to her as "brown girl"....dont be offended....its really annoying the way people get so offended by what people say these days

if people want to be racists, then let them be racists...who cares

and what context are we talking about here....is this just a random black person walking up to you on the street and saying, "hey white person".....if thats the case, then punch them in the nose

...only if are offended, not because we say you should or shouldn't be. and if you are, best you tell them.

Do you feel you are being offensive by asking the question and referring to an African American person as a "black" person?

Only if it's used in a derogatory way. Saying somebody is black, white, asian, etc. is more or less the same kind of quick classification as "brunette" or "blonde." It's really only bad if they aren't saying it in a nice or good way.
