cause there is more info in the brain...every day you get older....the more your brain stores in knowledge, images, sounds, smells, etc.

like a hard drive on a computer, the more full it gets, the slower it gets to retrieve that info and at times errors can happen when retrieving that info...same with the human brain.

The same reason why they lose the ability to do other things. The brain cells start to die faster than they are replaced by the body.

As time goes on, learned abilities start to diminish, whereas cognitive skills increase. That's why grandpa can tell a 4-hour story, but forgets how to clip his toe nails :)

The brain loses placticity as we age. Memory functions decrease regarding memorization and recall.
