I got my belly button peirced the day I turned 18. My parents didn't know about it so I had to (and still do) hide it from them. I went with my boyfriend at the time and the guy said "okay i'll count to three....one...two...." OUCH! He didn't reach three! It hurt but it was SO worth it. I love my piercing! Guys do love it...but most importantly it gives you a huge confident boost. If you decide you don't like it you can always take it out...it'll only leave a small dot. Make sure you go to a piercing place that is legit...usually they'll tell you if they are registered or not. Make sure they use clean equipment. Also soak it in warm water and epspom salt every night...this helps prevent infections. Good luck! It'll only hurt for half an hour afterwards. Just take some tylenol before hand and you'll be fine. Enjoy!

I got my belly button and tongue pierced on the same day (the day before i turned 18) Im now 23 so Ill try to think back! The belly button didnt hurt it was just a weird feeling! Pain tolerance is different for everyone! It is nothing intolerable... there are far more painful body modification services out there! Trust me I know! You will be fine! Make sure you go to a reputable shop, look for their establishment state license as well as the piercers stateboard license, make sure they abide by the states health codes, rules and regulations! Also follow proper after care... which consists of Dial antibacterial liquid soap and moving the barbell or ring around while cleaning! Its a simple and easy to care for piercing!

Im 15 now and I got mine done when I was 14, about 8 months ago..I told them that I didn't want to see the needle or see them pierce it. You dont want to be nervous and tense your tummy up..so just be 100% comfortable when getting it done. It doesnt hurt at all, afterwards its a little sore so have advil on hand. And If you get it done wait the full 6months before hanging a hanging belly button ring, I put one in a month after and got it infected and stuff. Its fine now and I absolutly love it! So good luck!!

I have 6 navel piercings, 3 on top, 3 on the bottom and I rarely show them off. I got them because I liked them, same with all of my piercings. I did 4 of those myself once I became a professional piercer. Overall, the piercing isn't too painful if you just relax (as much as possible of course).
I have a total of 26 piercings and NEVER got an infection or had troubles with healing. Main things to do is go to a reputable piercer, clean your piercings as you are instructed to do so and follow the advice given to you. If at any time you aren't sure on something, ask the artist!!! Good luck.

Well, I've had nothing but bad luck with having my belly button pierced due to skin allergies.
The first time I got my belly button pierced, (I did it myself), it got really infected so I had to take it out. About a year later, I decided to try it again. This time, it actually got ripped out while I was trying on clothes.
The best advice I can give is to go for it, and if you run into problems, take it out ASAP. Also, don't try on sweaters with a belly button ring in that could get snagged on the shirt! It does NOT feel good being ripped out!

I was thinking of getting mine done for ages, planning it out, etc then I just went to the place to check it out and ended up getting it done then and there. It's been three years now and it still looks and feels great. Make sure you pick a clean looking place and that the piercer uses gloves and disinfectant. You can't swim for a month afterwards and have to clean it twice a day, but after that its fine. I was anathesized so I didnt feel anything and it didn't get infected. I'm still so glad I got it done and if you do, you will be showing it off! Def recommend it, but find a good place first so you don't have probs

First of all what is the point of gettng one unless your going to show it off? :) Well Ive thought about it too and as I think about it, it seems like it would be more of a burden then a fashion statement. Im sure that it does get infected but you probably just need to make sure you wear the right kind of pants, you know, like the low rise so when you sit it doesn't rub against your bellybutton. Make sure you don't play any extreme sports (Sorry I dont know how old you are and what you do for fun or hobbies) with it in cause I mean what if it gets pulled out or something? haha that might be a ridiculous prediction but thats what has entered my mind about it. Im still debating but I think I might decide against it. Like I said it might be more of a burden.

Go for it! I have had 6 different piercings. The most painful was the nipples, the least painful was the bellybutton, as soon as they are done putting the bar thru the pain is gone. Go ahead and do it, if you decide you don't like it than take it out, but like the others said, go to a clean shop that only uses sterile needles to prevent infection b/c that would suck!

You know I was debating that exact same question too! One of my friends had it done, she said it didn't hurt that much during the procedure. And you do need a thorough care to prevent it from infection 'cause hers got infected and she had to let it grow in and redo it. On the TV I heard about it too where it was done by a professional and he said it: "The girls with fatter stomachs won't feel it as much because as opposed to having a lean stomach it will pierce through your skin and won't have that cushion effect". Now one of my other friends got it pierced too and was generally happy with it BUT when you try to dress and it touches the piercing it's gonna hurt quite a lot. I don't know if you ever pierced your ears but when you do they are very sensitive for at least a month, same thing with this. So the decision is yours but you know the consequences now! Is it worth it?...

My daughter and niece have theirs pierced. In both cases they became naseus and light headed, as if they were about to faint, and had to lie down. I guess this is common. No infections there, but my daughter was hospitalized for 4 days after getting the helix (inner edge) of her ear pierced. Make sure you go to a reputable place inspected by the state health department. Make sure they wear gloves, take a new needle out of the package, and clean the area of your skin first.
