My ex told me he wasn't sure how he felt about me and that he wasn't sure if he ever loved me. This was about a year after we broke up. Now whenever I get involved with someone else he just backs off and quits talking to me. We were friends before we dated so we try to at least check in on each other. Why does he act like this?

You are wasting effort when you try to be friends with him. If you don't enjoy each other's company, there is no need to be friends. The only reason a guy would even pretend to be a friend to a girl is so that they can eventually try to get into her pants. Don't try to be his friend. You and him are both better off that way. If you broke up, stay broken up.

He might be trying to hurt you because he's hurt himself. Guys will sometimes deny saying they ever loved someone and trick themselves into believing it. If he was really hurt during the breakup, regardless of if he admitted to it or not, then he will take awile to get over it. Give him time, and you can't help how he acts when you're with someone else, he's feeling jealous or maybe envious of you. If it's really bothering you then talk to him about it, try to judge how he feels about the whole thing but don't confront him on anything, that'll just make everything worse.

I think you answered your own question. He is not sure how he feels and when you are involved with someone else, he is man enough to back off and let you enjoy the relationship. Though he cannot decide on how he truly feelings about you, it sounds like he is a friend enough to let you move on.

Ditch him! He has issues. He thinks it is OK when he dose whatever he wants. But when you do something for you life he doesn't like it.

Our sin for the day is Jealousy.

Maybe he just does not want to stand in your way of finding someone who you can be truly happy with?
