Why should you not cut back frost damaged plants until it warms up? Not a novice so pl. be specific.?

When it freezes, frost settles on a plant from the top. If you have cut off all the damaged areas and then it freezes, you will kill the plant. Its best to leave those ugly dead looking plants until the danger of frost has passed.
