The Maid of Honor is unmarried
the Matron of Honor is married
the duties are the same for either unless you have both and then they are shared.
the duties of the MOH are usually more than the attendants.

The only difference between a MAID of honor and a MATRON of honor is marriage. The MAID is single, unmarried - hence "Maid" and the Matron is married. And they are the attendants unless you mean the male attendants? You should check out these sites, www.theknot.com, they have a Q&A section all about this and www.wikepedia.com, it tells all about the traditions of weddings - I found it really interesting how and why some traditions came to be.

The duties of everyone is the wedding party is to make this the most glorius day for the Bride and Groom and not quibble over who does what. The Bride should tell each member of the wedding party as she asks them to enjoy this honored roll, what she expects of them. Example to the Matron she may say, would you please make sure that the flowers are ....... and to the Bride's Maid would you help me to get dressed, etc.
In today's wedding I don't think there is a right or wrong, rather what the Bride and Groom want to make this the most memorable and special day in their life with the least amount of chaosis and problems.
