set goals...be clear on the concept of each song...be clear on what the message of each song will be...what is it that you want to tell people? how long do you want each song to be? do you want people to feel good when they hear the song? or do you want them to feel sad?

once you answer these kinds of questions, then you will know more and be closer to achieving the goal. writing songs.

as far as technique goes, multi tracking a basic demo with you playing all the parts (piano, vocals, bass, and guitar) would be my recommendation. this way, all the parts are there, finished and ready to be learned by the ensemble...or notated by them, or you could notate everything for them as well as providing them with a basic demo.

writing songs takes great concentration. it is a very thoughtful process.

try and find an online rhyming dictionary for lyrics.

try and have fun.

good luck

If you mostly write "step wise" that is, up from "do" to "re", or "re" to "me" (same going down) it will make the melody flow more and be easier to perform. Leaps between "do", "me" and "sol" are easy and sound good. Think about the range of the instrument and what might be easy or hard to do on it.

you need to make sure that what you decide to write is interresting and that people are wanting to hear it. make sure that u make the sone relate to what ever aduience u want it to and that it is not to hard to understand. Practice on your friends and listen to lots of music and u can put together anything.

Good Luck

just get a tape/digital recorder, so you don't have to try to literally "write" down all your ideas. That's probably the one easiest step to making songwriting less cumbersome.
