I have worked with dogs for over two years and I love it very much. The ketchup will not harm the dog, however you are putting yourself into a very difficult ituation because you are basically teaching the dog that if it doesnt eat then it will gt a yummy treat, so if there is ever a time when you have to leave and put him/her into a kennel...he/she will not ge the katchuop and will refuse to eat. It IS hoever OK to ive him that little treat every once in a while, but NOT because he/she isnt eating. I like to put little gravy on my dogs food or some cheese, but ONLY as a treat and no more then once a week. if you want to give you dog a real treat, buy him.her a kong and stuff it with goodies. its a great treat For any dog and you can get them at your local pet store or petsmart

There's a lot of sodium in ketchup, have you checked with the vet about this? Maybe your dog needs a different type of food, or it's possible there's something else going on. I would check with the vet. My personal feeling is that people food is for people and animals should have animal food.
Good luck!

Other than the high sodium content, and that too many tomatoes can cause illness, I'm sure you're doing fine. Why not purchase a can of low sodium beef or chicken broth and put on it? They are really cheap (cheaper than ketchup) and better for him.

I have to say that the best thing to do is ask your vet. The main ingredient in ketchup is tomatoes and tomatoes is one of the foods on the the bad food list for dogs.
Tomatoes can cause tremors and heart arrhythmias. Tomato plants and the most toxic, but tomatoes themselves are also unsafe.

That dog has you wrapped around his paw!! It shouldn't hurt him. Lots of dogs like tomatoes, which of course is in the ketchup. However, there is sugar in it too, which can cause diarrhea in dogs. A small amount at meal times should be OK.

There are quite a few animals that like tomato sause, ketchup, hot tomato sauses and anything with tomatoes in it. Even my cat likes to lick the plate of tomato sauses/ketchup.

LOL! Bless that's quite funny :)
I don't think it would hurt him though. My cat's favourite food is carrot cake and apart from being slightly overweight he's fine!
They do say there's more nutrients and minerals in pet food than most ready meals we eat so maybe it's just his equivalent of having macdonalds?

If you must do this, get ketchup with no added sugar in it or better yet, plain pureed tomatoes with nothing else in it.
