I have travelled extensively around both countries and can honestly say I enjoy both countries especially the lake districts in England and the music scene in Glasgow.
In conversation though, the English (generally speaking of course) enjoy a good jab at the Scots, while the Scots (again generally speaking) seem to be just happy doing what they are doing - being Scottish.
Also why do most English places refuse to accept the Scottish pounds in their establishments. It is after all the same currency?!
I never had a problem paying with British pounds in Scotland!

I am South African, and neutral in this issue.
Please, sincere answers only.
Thank you.

I am aware of the history and the mis-treatment of the Scots by the English,
but in that case you´d think the resentment would be from the Scots?!

Pedro, I don´t think there is doubt in anyones mind as to who has been the aggressor. I don´t want to turn this into a history lesson, you can do some more research if you like,
but my question begun and remains a social one and not a finger pointer.

How about years of wars and invasion?...

To clarify on your edits... Scots also liked to invade England now and then. Wars have two sides to them,

A High School English teacher of mine once told me that the English, Scotch, Welsh and Irish will often make jabs at each other amongst themselves but will pull together and defend each other if someone from outside the British Isles does it like say a Frenchman or a German. On the one hand, there is some nationalism and religious differences among all four of these peoples, on the other hand, they still tend to feel part of a single British Isles neighborhood (or community).

A similar attitude is found among Australians and New Zealanders where they feel it's okay for them to slam or criticize the British but if you're an American, don't you do it.

No, the conqueror continues to spit on the conquered. The same thing occurs in Canada.
