bandaid a blown headgasket... atleast so a dealer won't notice. Your husband must know something that no mechanic I have ever met has known.

Financially. not running the car is worth next to nothing. Spend $200-300 to get headgaskets redone and car should be worth much more.

I looked and a '01 intrepid, V6 with 80,000 average tradin starts at $5300.

I would fix the headgaskets and sell the car outright. You should get more money then on a trade-in.

Check these sites, enter the correct information and find out what the car is worth trade-in and private sale.

With my experience with these cars blown head gaskets are highly rare. What usually goes wrong is the water pump goes bad and leaks internally as in antifreeze into the oil.(BAD) Usually they fix the water pump and new timing belt and change oil and send it on its way. Fixed right(WRONG) Usually the antifreeze does enough damage to crank and rod bearings for them to wear out prematurely over the next 5k miles or so. You say its blowed up? Did it knock rattle or just quit running , very vague so I am going with most common with the 2.7L. Usually sound like a lifter rattle at first but is actually rod bearings. Then will eventually spin a bearing and or lock up. If it was really ran to long it can BLOW up as in break a rod or sieze up.

My advice is get a second opinion before spending any money because the head gasket is highly unlikely. Just for the record to all 2.7 owners out there change the water pump and timing belt every 40k miles without fail and they will run forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

change the oil and coolant this will not fix it but if you sell it to a car dealer it might pass and they might pay it off. don't do this and sell to some one exp. like your brother or uncle..lol the coolant when it mixes with the oil it makes the oil like a chocolate milk if you have the oil flushed out ( you need to have this done if you fix it and the coolant flushed so u get all of the oil out of the coolant and coolant out of the oil) if the car is good other than that it might be worth fixing....
