The uvula is the protuberance located near the back of the throat. It moves and rattles when we speak or yell-phonation. I believe it is vestigial.

The uvula is the dangly structure which hangs from the soft palate. The soft palate is examined while the patient says "ah". It is a way of determining if certain cranial nerves are working. The soft palate will rise if the nerves are intact.
