Hi all... I am 22 and I live independently ( not with my parents) and no children or anything. I am doing my taxes... when it says dependent do I clain "0" or "1". Can I claim myself?

Yes. If you supported yourself. If you want to know the best for your w-4, go to www.irs.gov, individual, withholding calculator, fill it out and it will get you close to what you need to claim throughout the year.

If you are not being claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer (and it appears that you should not be) then you claim '1' for yourself; you get that automatically. For dependents, you put '0' as you don't have any dependents.

Hi--you will claim one exemption for yourself, so check the box labeled "Yourself". The total exemptions in the box should read "1".

This entitles you to a $3300 personal exemption that is subtracted from your Adjusted Gross Income along with your standard deduction (of $5150 for 2006).

You put 0 you have no dependents. Your parents can not claim you. you are filing and you are claiming yourself just by filing.
