I was nervous, but that sounds like a dumb excuse. I want to go on a date with him, but I don't know what to say to him. Should I call him and apologize, tell him I was nervous, and hope he asks me out again? What excuse could I use?

I didn't not show up for the date. We talked one time on the previous Saturday...he asked if I would like to have a glass of wine and chat next Saturday. I said yes. He called me on Tuesday to confirm, i told him I was still interested in the date. On Thursday when he called, I did not answer the phone or call him back. I guess I left that out of my question. Thanks for all of your responses! They're all GREAT!

If you really like this guy then you are going to have to get over the fear ,send him some flowers and take him on a date your treat of course and win him back. You have to show him you really like him otherwise why would he put himself out there like that again to be stood up.

The truth is always the best policy. He will respect you more if you just come clean and tell him you are very nervous. You will probably be surprised to find out he is a little nervous too. Maybe you should talk on the phone for a little and get to know each other, get comfortable talking then go on that date. You might have to do the asking this time, but if he's a great guy, it will be worth it.
Good luck.

Best bet would be to tell him the truth. The most beautiful thing about a relationship is honesty. Never make up a story because if he ever finds out, it will be much worse than if you just told him straight from the beginning. Hope all goes well!

Dont use any excuses just tell him the truth and if you really want to go out with him then you set up the next date and stick to it. That way if you set it up he'll know its really going to happen

One sign of adult behavior is accountability. Actions make a bigger inpact than an apology. If you want to go out with him again, say so but don't be surprised if he doens't trust you to show up again. If you don't want to go out with him, you have to settle on knowing that you have a bad rep with him.
