He's bow-legged which doesn't affect him much, but he probably doesn't jump/run as efficiently as other cats. Any ideas on how to exercise him. I have another cat he sometimes plays with, but he's just so lethargic. Even as a kitten he was so docile and uninterested in playing. Such a cuddler and a sweetheart, but I worry about his health. I already control his portions and he's been on weight control iams for a few years (he's four). He's big-boned naturally, but I just want him to lose a few pounds, like one or two for health reasons. Any tips?

Do you keep food in his dish at all times? if so i wouldn't do that. feed him in the mornings so that he has all day to burn it off, and he will be fine with getting fed once a day. He should start losing weight soon. Have you tried catnip? that will get him goin! =) Hope this helps! I Had a cat that was a big fatty weighed in at 15 pounds... he got neutered and started puttin on the pounds. So i was forced to feeding him only once a day and got a younger kitten to play with. He successfully lost 3 pounds in 3 weeks... so hopefully this helps for you, and for your feline friend!!

My cat is a chub tub too! I actually have him on Nutro Weight Management for Indoor Cats right now which is helping more maintain where he is at and hes dropped a few pounds as well (he is on strict portions and always has been and despises people food... so Im not sure why hes so chubby). I have heard (not sure whether it is true) that male cats can tend to have weight issues once they have been neuterd! My cat is very laid back and I found using a laser to be quite effective during play time... He is extremely picky about toys and actually only likes the rainbow colored balls (cheap but they work)! Majority of his playtime consists of him freaking out on his scratching post! Have you takin him to the vet and discussed his weight issues, is he up to date on vet checks and shots? Im sorry I don't have more suggestions because my cat also has lazy tendancies! Good Luck! Here is the link on Nutro... Its more expensive but my cat loves it! You can get the laser light for cheap in the pet section at target!

One way to get a lazy cat to loose a few pounds is to take advantage of the fact that they are really lazy. I have a fat cat who would not move, and although was on a very strict diet was still gaining weight. My vet advised me to put bowls of fresh water in every room near her favorite spots. the metholodgy was that she will be too lazy to walk to her food dish and instead will just have a little drink of water when she is peckish or bored. It worked! Altough now I have 6 bowls to fill and clean every morning.. It aslo ensure they are well hydrated which will in turn boost thier energy levels.

I fould that toys containing cat nip or honey suckle would reall get my cat active, as well as a good scrating post. I highly recommend a cosmic catnip alpine scratcher.

She has lost 1 lbs in 6 months, which is apparently pretty good for a cat.

We have one who's a lazybones too, he is on Science Diet Feline WD from the vets, which is a weight control food, but he's also on it because of urinary problems. He's a long, tall cat and he weighs about 12 lbs. which the vet says is OK.

To exercise him, we have a long wooden dowel with a string tied onto it and on the other end of the string is tied a crumpled piece of plain white paper, you don't want them to get any dye in their mouths. We are frequently able to get him to leap a foot or more off the floor to catch that little piece of paper, it's amazing to watch.

Or you can try a laser pointer too, those always work, but a little bit goes a long way with that. They will get burned out pretty quickly and have to sleep it off, it winds their nervous systems up pretty tightly.

Good luck and have fun!

i have a baby kitten with bowed legs...although she is a baby and active i found that what gets her the most is a lazier pen. she cant resist. otherwise walmart and others places i am sure have this wonderful cat climber. it goes from the floor to the ceiling and had three diff. levels. its also adjustable so for sure it will fit your home. i assembles that and the cats love to lay on the top level. they can see everything and its warm up there...heat rises...but he i will have to go up it AND down it again. that could up the exercise a bit. when he does play give him a treat. that could up that want to play more as well. good luck

an amazing fuzzy blankie. Our cat stunned us by burrowing below as quickly as we placed an previous greater advantageous blanket on the mattress while the means failed. The blanket is slightly stiff and easy-weight, not heavy or actual mushy so it clings.
