"Global warming" is a misnomer propagated by an ignorant mass media. The correct term is "global climatic change" and that has been happening, oddly enough, for the past 4.5 billions years of the Earth's history. However, the fact is that humans have very little understanding (and even less information) about all of the factors that affect the global climate and how they interact.
In answer to what would be your next question, "Why have various groups (such as the IPCC) released reports claiming that human activity is the sole cause of a dramatic rise in the Earth's temperature?", I can only speculate. The three most compelling reasons are:
A) ignorance on the part of the "researchers" leading to a lack of understanding about the global climatic systems,
B) hubris on the part of the "researchers", refusing to acknowledge aspects of the global climatic systems, and
C) fear-mongering on the part of organizations who stand to benefit from such reports.
Personally, I believe that it's actually a combination of all three.
What it boils down to is that to find the truth, you will need to do some research on your own about what factors influence climatic change and how they do so.

Yes, global warming exists, it has already started. Finally governments around the world have recognized that it is a serious problem, however, aren't doing what they should to reduce the affects of climate change on the planet. Sitting around wrestling over words in a 12 page report is one of the stupidest things that I have heard on the news! There isn't time for all that now...especially since the report is only of use for possible future policies-oh that really helps! The world has not 50 years or 70 years but 43 years!! This is in my life time and in the life time of all the babies that are born this year and the following years. What kind of a future are we leaving the next generation anyhow? Global oceans are rising and heating up, the forests of British Columbia are dry and rotting inside due to a vivicous attack of a bettle specie, the polar bear is weakening and dying out, the signs are everywhere. Even if we stopped polluting now the affects of all the carbon minoxide and carbon dioxide would remain in the atmosphere for hundreds of years. So the longer we all hold off from rescueing our planet the longer the after affects will be. I think the whole world over must unite on the fight against pollution, that causes more deaths and destruction than any terrorist attack or war there could possibly be. It's more than just individual, it's more than just one country above another, it is the whole world that is at stake and must respond!

I won't argue that temperatures are rising. There's evidence of that just based on the records of the last hundred years. Your real questions should be, "are humans causing global warming?" My answer to that would be "no!" The Earth has a history of temperature change. Don't beleive me? Scientists will tell you that there was an ice age in the past. So what caused the ice to go away? My guess would be an increase in global temperature. What caused the ice age to start? My guess on that would be a decrease in global temperature. Also, it was recently announced that the Earth is the hottest it's been in 2000 years. So what caused the temperature to go down then? My guess would be that it had nothing to do with humans and their use of the combustion engine, since there were no combustion engines back then.
Consider this... The same scientists that are promising the end of the world due to global warming, are the same scientists that, as early as 1985, were promising that we were heading into a new ice age. Scientists want us scared... I'm not sure why, but that has to be the asnwer.

Scientist just released the information that the average temperature of the Earth has risen constantly for the last few years. The ice caps are shrinking and tropical storms are getting more violent each year. These are sure signs of global warming. Even Bush is starting to admit that we have a problem. Don't let others deny the facts, look it up in any scientific publication and you will see that the majority of experts agree that the Earth is warming too quickly to have been brought about by natural causes.

The simple answer is: WE CAN'T BE SURE. There is a huge body of scientific evidence to show that it isn't happening, but that evidence gets swept under the rug by the mainstream liberal media because it doesn't fit their "kill God and worship mother Earth" agenda. The scientists that say it IS happening show temperature increases across the planet, but here's what they're not telling you: Over 95% of the "test sites" are in urban areas, and all the urban areas they tested have grown in population by at least 30% in the last 20 years (some have grown by over 200%). Now, think about this for a minute: When a city gets more people, who produce what? -- HEAT -- and you build more buildings out of cement and concrete, which absorb what? -- HEAT -- and you bring in more cars and trucks that expel exhaust fumes and what? -- HEAT -- what do you expect is going to happen?!?!! That is why this "evidence" that they say proves global warming is happening is fundamentally flawed. Until we get scientists who are not motivated by money, fame, or a political agenda and who will conduct honest research based on proven scientific methods, we'll never know what's really going on here.

In some parts of Australia the farmers have not seen rain water for the past 6 years. You can died in two hours without water in a 48 degree hot weather. Inside a car the weather can reach 77 degrees. Some rivers do not longer have any water on them so the animals died. On top of this because the soil is really dry the houses are breaking up and people walking outside can see everything. I do not think that you want to know about the 100 kilometres long forest fires!!! It feels like the 10 plagues of Egypt :(

Yes I believe so, I have done reasearch for different papers in english and it looks like it is a posibility from how much energy the nation consumes. Some ice caps have melted a bit and I believe it said the harsh tropical storms are also a result from the global warming.

Yes, but I think global warming, and global cooling are occuring at the same time.
By that, I mean that the parts of the year that are suppose to be warm, like summer, are getting warmer, and the parts of the year that are suppose to be cold, like winter, are getting colder.
Or it could just be another crazy year of Michigan weather, who knows.

The scientific debate about whether global warming is real and caused by man is over.
Scientists agree it's real and caused by man:
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/306/5702/1686
http://observer.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,,1995348,00.html
Business leaders agree it's real and caused by man:
http://money.cnn.com/2007/01/22/news/companies/climate_emissions/index.htm
Republican leaders agree it's real and caused by man:
"We simply must do everything we can in our power to slow down global warming before it is too late. The science is clear. The global warming debate is over."
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republican, Governor, California
"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."
John McCain, Republican, Senator, Arizona
"These technologies will help us become better stewards of the environment - and they will help us to confront the serious challenge of global climate change."
President George Bush, Republican
The global warming deniers are exactly the same type of non-science believers as the people who don't believe we landed on the moon.
I would have added "or those who believe the Earth was made 6000 years ago". But I can't. Evangelical Christians believe it's real and caused by man:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,243801,00.html?sPage=fnc.science/naturalscience
The scientific debate over whether global warming is real and caused by man is finished. Yes and yes.
And it won't be benign. It will flood coastal areas and damage agriculture. Rich countries will see huge costs, and the standard of living will go down. In poor countries people will die of starvation.

well lets see here.large numbers of very powerful killer hurricanes caused by warmer seas, the polar bears don't have enough ice packs to be safe and their dieing ,drought.killer heat waves.most all scientist say its mostly man made. this global warming, so NO theirs no such thing. Its ALL in our imagination.Thank You for the question.I sure feel better now knowing that Its all just some hoax,
Just in case though. I am investing in buying some higher land near the beaches area near me, as I would like my grandchildren to have some ocean front property to sell and make them rich, farm land to day. ocean front in a few years. GREAT!!!!
