my 9 year old daughter has hair that reaches her bum, and this is what i do:
i wash her hair in the bath and then condition it. whilst the conditioner's in i use a wide tooth comb and detangle it. then rinse well with lukewarm water.
i always pleat it at bedtime as it's an absolute nightmare to brush if i don't!!
if you need to dry brush it the simplest way is to brush about two inches at the ends of the hair. then brush out the bottom four inches and keep doing this until you reach the roots. i know it takes a while, but there's no tears this way!!
if it's a child's hair, then l'oreal do a fabulous kids detangle leave in conditioner. smells of peaches and works wonders!
good luck!!

Leave-in conditioners/detanglers are wonderful, but before you even get out of the shower, squeeze you hair out and apply a generous amount of good conditioner. Squeeze it all throughout your hair and comb it through with your fingers before you rinse. Do not over rinse! This should help tremendously - now get out and use the detangler. Voila!

try a bit of hair serum rubbed into the really tough spots. It will help slick the hairs so it will comb out easier, just don't use too much or her hair will look greasy when it dries. In addition, you may want to try the L'oreal Kids or Johnson & Johnson hair detangle spray, if you spray it on and let it sit for a few seconds, it will help a lot.

My daughter and I both have long naturally curly hair and I have found that if you shampoo and condition regularly it helps.Go to Sally's beauty supply store they sell good shampoo and conditioning products for cheap. If you shower at night comb and tie it back in a braid or pony tail so it doesn't get all tangled then in the morning wet it and gel or mouse and style as usual Also keep the ends trimmed up.

Use a leave-in conditioner like Infusium..it makes hair soft and easy to get the tangles out...my VERY tender-headed 11 year old daughters hair is thick and curly..it is the ONLY thing that works without making her hair look greasy....don't over use though...you can always add more if you need it, but will have to shampoo to get it out...

Use a good leave-in conditioner. Curly hair needs a little bit of moisture to hold the curl and avoid frizziness.
