I agree with other responders on the timeless and manly qualitiy of whiskeys, be it scotch or bourbon. Either will do. I would add tequila shots to that list.

However, if you want to get real manly, and the taste if of secondary importance, order 4oz of good vodka straight up with a slice of lime on the side. Just don't have too many of these :)

My personal favorite is Grand Marnier on the rocks. It's manly because it's a cognac, but sipped it gives your mouth an interesting voyage through the in's and out's of oranges. It's hard to describe but it's good. Take a little sip the first few and hold them just behind your front bottom teeth for a minute or two. The flavor pervades your entire mouth. It's strange but fantastic. It's not too harsh like whiskey either. Plus you're holding a drink that looks like it's definitely a man's drink.

I always go with beer... but I am rarely looking for the "regular beer." It depends what's on tap where you are going, but I'd ask for a local microbrew or a good micro stout, ipa, porter, or barleywine. I'd say barleywine is pretty manly... not likely to be on tap, though, I guess.

Martinis are pretty cool without being too girly. Not the "lemon drop" or "cosmo" types. But a traditional martini.

Scotch and soda. Jack and coke. Those are both kind of masculine also.

The best tasting non-fruity drink (i think) is a vodka tonic...tastes kind of like sprite.

Hope that helps!

mari

Pair of Jacks - 1/2 J.D. 1/2 Yukon Jack - doesn't get more manly than that !!

Any Scotch, Bourbon or Whiskey served with water ,soda , or just ice [ on the rocks] would qualify. You can also add a twist of lemon to that but never lime
When you order it ask for the alcohol by name then the mixer then the twist.
" Hey Joe, Could I get a Black on the rocks with a twist ?"
Classic martini's , old fashioneds , manhattans and whisky sours would also qualify

Whiskey, bourbon, or scotch on the rocks. Don't mix it with anything, that just feminizes it and ruins the flavor. Don't do it as a shot, that's frat party stuff. Get a nice Maker's Mark or Gentleman Jack on the rocks, sip, and enjoy.

Jack Daniels whiskey. If you really want to impress people. Say, " Gimme a shota Jack"! Then take it down in one gulp. Try to avoid any sign of pain. Make it look like it's going down as easy as water. Everybody will be impressed by your manliness.
