I ilived in a community where I guess they thought That My lawn Was Not being cut on a regular basis.So,The city hired an independent lawn care service to come out and Cut the grass,Trim shrubs,Cut down trees???! ect..Without my permission.i had even told them to leave more than once.When Igot my homeowners tax bill they charged me appx $ 3000 for these city services! Is it even legal to do that?I live in the state of ohio.

1. Yes, it's legal if your city has an ordinance to that effect. Many do. (One very good reason to live in an unincorporated area and to fight annexation tooth and nail. I do on both counts; we've beaten back 3 attempts by two different cities in the past 5 years.)

2. Anticipating your next question, no, it's NOT deductible as real estate taxes. It's not a tax, but a service that you were charged for. The fact that it appears on your tax bill does not make it deductible.
