Are you cooking it for kids - or just to use it up?
I had some left over from when we had guests with a toddler - I made her pasta and creamy parm cheese sauce. The rest, I just threw into a soup. What do adults care if it's alphabet pasta or not? I needed pasta for the soup, and that's what I had in my cupboard.

You could start with any soup that you like and bring it to a boil, and then add the pasta for about 15 minutes.
