I picked up a 27" Flat Tube TV last year. The back has yellow composite, s-video and component(blue, red, green) inputs on the back.

From what I understand pretty much all tvs are 480i with s-video. does component inputs give you 480p or not necessarily. It is not digital.

and yes I know the difference between resolutions of 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p.

I picked up a Wii and bought a component cable set online. Am wondering how much better the picture will be over the composite cables. (must admit that I am a little dissapointed it doesn't come with em.

I have a really nice phillips dvd player hooked up to the component and the picture is way better than the s-video out i was getting

27" flat tube - you mean TV tube and not plasma or LCD right? I highly doubt that the tv is 480p. I believe all flat tube tv's are 480i.

*edit*
okay I did a little research and it appears "some" flat tube tv's of recent vintage are able to do 480p. you will have to check your documentation. Component inputs do not guarantee 480p

Easy way to find out....give it a 480p source and see if the picture freaks out.
