My friend hammered drugs for over ten years. He is now clean and lives a healthy life. Is it possible for his body to heal itself from the abuse of amphetamines overe this period (crack also at times) and be normal again?. He has no symptoms of body illness and his blood pressure is fine.

i knew an alcoholic who had been sober for 15 years - then he was diagnosed with liver disease! he is gone now, but it just goes to show you that what you put your body through may not yeild instant reprocussions. i'm really glad your friend is clean now, thats pretty much all you can do. i dont know about the relationship between amphetamines and liver trouble, but it is possible that he has weakened his heart during his drug use and might be at risk for heart attacks or brain aneurysms in the future.

1. What age do you think it should be legal to have sex? 16 2. What age do you think it should be legal to buy alcohol?18 3. Do you feel comfortable discussing sex, drugs, and alcohol with parents or teacher? Not exactly 4. What are your opinions on teen age pregnancy? - I am not a fan of it however if someone made the wrong decision and ended up with this as a consequence it shouldn't define them and people shouldnt look down upon teenage mothers because it is not easy and they deserve more credit than they receive. 5. What is the best option do you think Adoption, Abortion or too keep the baby? I personally believe that it is to the decision of the mother. If she feels that she is prepared to support this baby then so be it. If she feels that she is unprepared and she wants to give this child an opportunity to life a good life then adoption. But if she feels unprepared for both then abortion is the way to go. 6. Do you think drugs harm society.? Yes because it causes so many deaths each day. This affects our economy and our communities. 7.GIRLS:If you got pregnant would you be comfortable telling your parents? Honestly, no. My parents are hardcore catholic and would disown me if I was. BOYS: if you got a girl pregnant would you fell comfortable telling your parents? My boyfriend's parents would probably be more accepting because hes about 6 years older than me and his parents knows that he is deeply in love with me and he would do anything for me.

Everything you eat, drink, breathe (as in chemical fumes), or apply to your skin is filtered through your liver. So, yes, drugs can and do damage your liver as bad as alchohol does. Fortunately for us the liver is a very tough organ, and takes lots of abuse but still continues to function. It is when you pair alcohol or drug abuse or exposure to fumes with something like liver disease or hep c that the damage accumulates quicker than just the drug/alcohol exposure itself. Your friend should protect himself from further exposure in order to help his liver continue to function for as long as possible.

yes. just because he doesnt feel it now, doesnt mean he wont. i recently had a surgery, and am on some pretty powerful stuff. and in the first 2 days out, i had taken over 20 vicadan. it was a pretty painful ordeal. but after a couple weeks i was off the vicadan, and it wasnt until after that, that i started having liver pain. so think about this, if i was only on the meds for about a week and a half, and it took 2 more weeks for my liver to hurt, just because his doesnt hurt now, and is appears healthy now, in 2 years he might not be.

Drugs can indeed be very damaging. But since your friend has cleaned up, it's possible for him to heal. Only a doctor can tell him what exactly is going on with his liver.

Good luck!

Most of the damage from drugs is actually from the cut and the related lifestyle (unhealthy eating, sleeping, etc) and not the chemicals themselves (yeah they do some harm, but mostly recoverable) overdoses not withstanding as they can cause such shock to the system that permanent changes are triggered (like death).

it depends on the drug and how it is metabolised. But other drugs than alcohol are taken in much lower quantities than alcohol so they cant damage the lever at the same extend...
