My mind tends to wander when I try to pray or study the Bible sometimes. Or it will seem like the things I'm praying to God for help with will become more worrisome when I start to pray, almost as if my mind is being distracted. But I've noticed that if I have mellow nature or instrumental playing in the background it helps me to focus, and eventually I block out the music and get lost in study or prayer. This type of music also reminds me of God's creations and how powerful He is which may be another reason it relaxes me. Is this acceptable, or could listening to music at these times be viewed as a form of ritual that God would disapprove of? Below is an example of the type of music I listen to. The only difference is that it may have nature sounds included:

Of course it's okay, do you notice in the scriptures how many Prophets, and Jesus too, went out into the wilderness to pray, and meditate? They were surrounded by nature sounds, and the music of birds etc.

Good music is definitely divinely inspired, and if it helps you focus, by all means - keep it up.

Hi D,
I generally listen to non-instrumental hymns and christian music turned down low. I just do not find any examples of instrumental music in the New Testament Church and therefore, I do not listen to it unless others are doing so and I never keep them from doing it. There are a number of tapes and CDs available from Christian Stores. Have a great day.

Of course! Anything that helps you focus is good. Our bodies can be distracting, so if you can calm your mind a little to really focus why wouldn't it be acceptable?

Hymns with a solid content. i'm long term considering that finished with the favored 3 sentence suggestive, so called, Christian songs. i like those lyrics that exalt and raise up God`s call. MIMI
