My verizon phone is set up correctly for International dialing yet I cannot contact another verizon phone (US) while that person is traveling in Thailand. I've tried 011-66-1203+number, 011-66-8-203+number and various other combinations. Has anyone been successful in doing this?

Just to clarify. Verizon says to dial 011 for international, then 66 for the country code, then the number. When I do this a recorded message says to put an 8 after the 66 for mobile numbers. The other phone is set up to dial and accept international calls.

You dial that phone as you do usually (as if it is in the US). If that number has roaming, your call will be directed to it wherever it is in the world. You will be charged normal cost, but the holder of the other phone will be charged an international call from the US to Thailand.

001 to access international calling carrier , then the country code which is 1 for the US, then the area code, and then the phone number.

for example 001 1 408 555 1212

if you are calling from a cell phone you can simply use + to replace the 001, for example +1 408 555 1212

There are actually 4 ways to make international calls from Thailand.

001 or + is the best quality call offered from Cat(a telco company)

007 will get you best quality call from ToT(another telco company)

008 will get you a voip call from ToT, the rates will be much cheaper but the quiality isn't quite as good as the regular lines and has a little longer delay

009 (also called ePhone) will get you a voip call from Cat, the rates will be much cheaper but the quality isn't quite as good as the regular lines and has a little longer delay

If you get a "Phone Net" card available at any 7-11 you can make DIRT cheap calls back to the states. I think I was paying 6B a minute, which is about $0.15 a minute to the US. Here's the Cat Website http://web1.cattelecom.co.th/ press english in the upper right, then look on the left for telcom rates. Pick overseas calls, then whatever dial out number you want to use 001,009, PhoneNet Card, or whatever. I just looked at the rates, it's 9B a minute to use 001, 7B a minute to use 009, 6B a minute to use a Phone Net card. Compare this to $4USD (or 160B) a minute using my cingular phone on roam. I just get a local Thai sim card, then a PhoneNet card and call at will. If you have a laptop or a PC you can use Cat2Call which is like SkypeOut except its only 3B(about 7 cents) a minute to call back to the US.

Hi Linda, where are you calling from? If you are in US, all you need to do is to dial your friend's number as you would, like your friend is also in US. Autoroam will just patch your call overseas to where your friend is, provided your friend has autoroam feature activated before traveling overseas.

If you are in Thailand, then you need to dial 001+1+(US area code) +(US mobile number)

You will be dialling overseas from Thailand to reach your friend's number.

Maybe that persons phone is not set up to accept calls while travelling internationally. You could contact Verizon and find out.
