How can I get my 5 year old daughter to quit sucking her fingers?

Question

She sucks her middle and ring finger together. She does it all the time, not just when she's sleeping. Her teeth are already bowing out on the top. I've tried hot sauce on her fingers, the taste goes away after awhile and she sucks them again. I've tried bandades around her fingers, she just pulls them off after I've gone to sleep. I'm not sure what else to do. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

special nail polish for stopping nail biting will work. Put it on her when she is sleeping. If it tastes bad she wont do it

I am 56, a retired elem teacher who sucked her thumb thru 2nd grade. My parents tried all of this, none of it worked. I finally quit on my own. It might be due to the need of oral gratification, so if she has something like a cough drop or candy or ??? to suck on, it might help alleviate some of it. i still prefer to drink thru a straw, try that too. It is sucking ! ANd with water bottles I still prefer the type that I have to suck on to get the water out. These are just things I have noticed in hindsight. Good luck.

when my bro was 5 he sucked his fingers alot tell her that her fingers will fall off that is what my mom did for him he stopped!lol good luck

well to be honest no matter what you trying to do it wont work...unless they are willing to...just like my sister she used to suck her thumb my mom put chili on it while she sleeping..it didnt work....

one day she went to a school camping and the schoolmate(actually her crush) saw her doing it she so embarrased...till then she never than it again..lol

tell her that when she gets older no one is going to hold her hand and she will get a big ugly bump on her hand
