Here's a quote from my psychotherapist.
"All kinds of anxiety/depression medications out there and they STILL can't come up with a better medication for it than MARIJUANA."
So there you go. Otherwise, see your doctor...there might be another medication that works better for you than the Lexapro.

From experience Marijuana does make the issue worse. You should strongly consider stopping, or cutting back to recreational use. If Marijuana was an acceptable treatment it would be prescribed. Marijuana can reduce the functionality of your serotonin receptors. That is why some people experience paranoia, and anxiety while smoking pot. Over a long period of time this becomes a permanent condition. Most anxiety medications will also reduce in effectiveness when combined with an alcohol, it can also result in serious side effects. THC is an alcohol.
Talk to you doctor, there are many more medications out there such as wellbutrin, effexor and paxil to name a few. Remember that it takes about 8-12 weeks for the medications to start working so don't be discouraged. There are also a variety of sedatives that will help you through the more severe of the attacks as you adjust to the medication. An important part of treatment is also seeking therapy. Finding the route of the anxiety and developing tools to deal with the stress and fundamental to beating it.
Do yourself a favor and seriously consider cutting back or cutting out the pot. It really is not helping your situation.

you arent going to find a medication that is the "strongest" per se....it really depends on your body. i have been battling severe depression for years now and it took me and my various doctors a great deal of time to figure out what medication i needed, so that i actually had results. so it could be as simple as you switching to another medication. i am currently taking a combination of medications which has been fairly decent so far.
as for the marijuana....drugs are always a quick fix....but that's just it, they are a quick fix. you want something long term that is going to actually have results that are beneficial. its definitely possible to find a medication that will have the same benefits as marijuana with regards to the anxiety and depression, but probably not for some of the other fun stuff that comes with smoking out.
just remember that studies have shown that depression is a disorder in the brain, so taking drugs to fix the problem can make them worse because most drugs screw up your brain in some way or another. your brain already has issues that need to be addressed, don't make it worse by damaging it with drugs....i used to smoke a lot of pot amongst other things and although im quite successful and have done well for myself....it wasnt worth it and who knows what kind of damage ive done to myself

I disagree with most people here. I have a medical marijuana prescription and is amazing for anxiety, as long as you stick with Indica strains, DO NOT medicate with sativa strain. That will increase your anxiety 10 fold. I was able to decrease my use of Xanax in half and marijuana it is non-toxic and non-addictive. Unlike most of the anti-anxiety medications. As for THC pills forget it. It is pure THC and will only make you hungry. Oh and always use a vaporizer, safest way to take your medication. For the depression, you might want to look at Brintillex it's the "newest" medication for depression. It is an SSRI and also stimulates your receptors. As for this guy who suggested "god" is delusional and in need of anti-psychotics.

The strongest medication will be prescription-only, so you need to see your doctor. Mine gave me prescriptions for both anxiety and depression - the anxiety ones definitely work and I'm waiting to see about the antidepressants. I too enjoyed marijuana, but apparently long-term use can cause depression and I've a feeling it may have been the "feel-good" drugs I took in my youth that are causing my depression today.

Hi, its horrible to be in this situation and I really feel for you, it's just horrid. I would suggest you go back to your GP and perhaps write him down a list of all your symptoms so that you've got it to hand when you go, it can be really difficult trying to remember it off the top of your head. Personally I have also had difficulties trying to find relief from the same symptoms and have tried many anti-depressants, so far I've found the most effective to be cipralex (Escitolopram), but definately go back to your GP (and refuse to leave until he does something, it works!!!) Hope this helps a bit and you feel better soon.

it is not the matter of the strongest medication, but rather the medication that works best with your bodies chemistry. You may have to try several medications until you find the one that helps you most. That would mean sitting down with a Dr and talking it over. But remember that most antidepressants take 14 days to work fully.

There are a lot of anti-depressants to choose from but only your doctor can help. You can't just say one is the strongest because there are even different categories of anti-depressants. Also, your doctor can up the dosage if what you are taking isn't working. Usually anti-depressants take a couple of weeks or so to start working. You can research anti-depressants on webmd.com and then talk to your doctor.

you are right the marijuana will make your mental health worse, it will also cause paranoia.
depression is a clinical condition in which there is a chemical inbalance in the brain. it is necessary to correct this balance by putting back the chemical that is missing.
it is not a strong medication that you need it is the right one.
This needs to be done by your doc and it needs a little patience trying different ones until you find the one that suits you and treats your symptoms.
once you find the right medication and the right dose of it, you will certainly feel the benefit.
stick with it and go speak to your doc.

"be smart" and come off the anti depressants. They are not going to make you feel any better, reduce the amount you take then stop taking them altogether. smoke a bit of weed every now and then if you want, no one can stop you. But you should really see someone and sort out the reason as to WHY you are depressed, then you wont feel as depressed. See a psychiatrist They really help, trust me, i had a few sessions and i see things in a whole new light. It does work if YOU WANT IT TOO. !
Good luck x
