As I understand it the book was written by many people in Hebrew thousands of years ago. As we didn't have photocopiers or printers then I can only assume it was copied hundreds of times by hand over the years. This surely led to inaccuracies and 'God Forbid' people making changes to suit the social climate of the time. There was no version control on the Bible so how can you be sure what you read and blindly follow today is not completely different from what was in the original manuscripts? And perhaps more importantly, how do you know it wasn't just written by a bunch of nutters like David Koresh?

Centurion - Believe me, I'm far from miserable. In fact, I'm on top of the world today and I hope everyone else is too. I'm interested in what makes people tick but if you're too insecure in your faith to actually try and explain this to me then I think you should stop wasting my time for the sake of 2 points.

Wayne T - are you serious? The bible is the most accurate history book ever? What about the blatant lies such as the Earth only being a couple of thousands of years old?

OK firstly in the genesis, the sun wass created later....so we don't know whether the years refer to 'earth years' or another time period ....before the sun , it is possible that a single year could be equivalent to thousands of earth years as we currently experience it...the space-time continuum could be different then.
Secondly, the bible can be interpreted in many ways....not necessarily literally.....so the people who blindly believe everything are actually blindly believing everything that is told to them about the bible..... For example - the date of birth of jesus wasn't directly mentioned - it had to be interpreted.
If the bible was silent over certain issues or facts, they assume that those do not exist.
thirdly, though the bible is a historical record, it does not consider the history of each and every region of the world. Yes what was mentioned - things like the great flood and stuff did happen as other religious books and documents also have records of it.
Fourthly, though the knowledge of it all was spiritually ordained, the writers were after all human.....they could have made certain mistakes at times.....
Fifthly, there were many gospels and manuscripts missing or hidden or stolen before the bible was written - for example - the gospel of judas or the dead sea scrolls....
Some believe that the church did this to hide certain truths from the people in order to gain and retain their supremacy....
However, a staunch catholic opften takes things too literally. Even if there is accurate truth, they misinterpret it and thus others like us feel that it is inaccurate....
So yes, i feel that people are taking the Bible too literally and in oprder to evolve into highly spiritual beings, they must seek to interpret it for themselves, question sections they cannot understand and seek answers rather than dismissing those sections as something which only God can comprehend.
Religious texts tells one to have faith in god - but god gave us intelligence to have an inquiring mind - something that sets us apart from othre species - this must not be wasted.....however, people who have blind faith are too blind to see this aspect too....

Well there are couple of answers you'll typically get on this. I'm not saying these are the only ones, but some.
The first belief is that there was divine intervention. This means to say that what was written was written down by people that were being guided by God ; that God guided their writings.
There are different versions with the most poplular being the King James version. That is a whole history and topic in itself. You'd have to explore that to see if you felt you could have faith in it yourself.
Either way, it is a leap of faith. You either belive or you do not believe that there was divine intervention in the writings of the bible. Neither side can be proven fully. I can't prove to you that there was divine intervention and you can't prove that there wasn't.
You have to ask yourself. What do you really believe? It's not an easy question. There are so many different takes on Christianity in itself. The translation of some of the writings is one of the reasons for this. Hell, and the existence of, for example. People will point to versus where the translation of one word alone will guide their belief.
Good luck with it all.

And for everything -- Like their God that has no beginning-- That is why when it creates something --IT HAS A BEGINNING ??? Now everything works the same and the opposite at the same time -- They say -- With God all things are possible -- So if they need evidence --It needs no beginning -- It is their before it existed -- If evidence is required --then there is proof without proof - because all things are possible-- Their religion is one constant trump card -- That why the Holy Bubble is evidence for anything and everything "!

The same reason all religions do ...because they want to believe in a higher power...they need to believe in something even if its as far fetched as the Easter Bunnie (for years we tell our children there is an Easter Bunnie then we rip the idea away from them telling them that they need to understand between real life and make belief) but in the same token adults are not willing to except that the bible may have been the writings of a bunch of lunatics who were smoking to much Opium at the time. Religion leaders have based their entire lively hood and politics out of their beliefs and have brainwashed their followers so well that it could be detrimental to all religions if it were to be discovered that the things they believed in ie: the Bible were all a hoax.

Christians have every right to consider the Bible evidence for everything.Even the Muslim's Koraan honours the Bible. The question actually should be which bible ? because there are many of them. The Koraan talked about some people changing the Bible.I believe that basically all authentic holy books are basically the same because they come from the same one GOD

as I understand it the book was re-written by the roman council when they decided to convert the roman empire to Christianity. At this time parts off the bible were re-written to they rules and what they decided was good for the general public and to keep peace with the lesser supported Greek gods.
The book has been translated from Hebrew to Latin and German which must have lost its meaning through the translation and the translate rs own view on what he was reading.
Why would people blindly follow the ramblings off a book.

Christians first believe that the Bible is the Holy Word of God. Men wrote what we believe they were inspired to by God. The authenticity of the Bible has always been questioned by those who want to believe there is no moral code to account for your life. Archeologists have scoured the old Roman empire and have found many scripts as they were originally written and the evidence they uncovered, indicated that given what is known of human history and events of the time, these writings were shown to be authentic (I am not entirely sure of the way these people prove these things but there are many reference books to show this). Perhaps the best way a person can explain why the Bible is believed is simply by applying God's principals and Morals to one's own life. By reading and digesting the Word of God, you are opened to new realm of thinking. God offers promises to those who do His will and there is a great many testimonies to people testing this and finding God's promises come to fruition in their lives. I think the main problem people have is distinguishing between what they want to believe about the Bible and understanding the Will of God. I have met people who have said they 'prayed' for God to save someone only to watch them die anyway, and then question the existence of God. It doesn't work that way. God chooses the miracles He performs, I believe, because of the end result He is looking for. When a miracle cure does not meet His requirement, it is not performed. Something else people tend to miss is that the person in question was going to die anyway. Being cured from cancer is a great example of a miracle healing that God has performed many times, yet look at the doubt that reamins in the world. Also, the person healed is still buried (though at a later time). Another great example of the authenticity of the Bible is the history of those who wrote for God. These men were mercilessly persecuted for their teachings, some were men who ate and drank with Jesus and were persecuted by men who tried, convicted and executed Jesus only to lay witness to His resurection. A man would not suffer the persecutions that these men suffered if they did not wholly believe what they wrote. I also believe these men could not have suffered were it not for the strength of conviction the Holy Spirit offers.
The fact of the matter is, and the Bible says, that God has written eternity on the hearts of men. This means that no matter what you have the ability to say, you know that you know that YOU KNOW there is something else waiting for you after your scheduled appointment with the grim reaper. Questioning the Bible doesn't elevate past this thinking. God gives you the choice, of your own free will, what you believe. If you are desperate enough to convince yourself the Bible is not accurate so that you can soothe your guilty conscience, then you are free to do just that. Just don't expect to be able to use that arguement on Judgement day. God wants a relationship with you, not your religion, that is what Jesus' ministry was all about. A relationship with His creation. Test God now, ask Him to reveal Himself to you, surrender to Him and He will pour out His Spirit upon you. But you have to accept God on His terms, not yours. God has already paid the price for you to come to Him through His Son Jesus. Accept Him, believe in Him and you will begin to know Him in miraculous ways.
There are many reference materials concering the history of the Bible written by those who have found evidence to refute the naysayers who claim there is no evidence when in fact there is. I'm sorry I don't have specific names and titles, but I have seen many books and know they are there if you really want to find out.
May God bless you and hae a great day.

Nothing in the bible can be proved wrong. Though different men wrote the bible it was under inspiration of the holy spirit. The world would be 100% better if everyone lived by the high moral standards of the bible. Try reading "The Bible, God's word or man's" and Mankind's Search for God" published by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Association (available from any Jehovah's Witness).
