It may not have a direct effect for a total meltdown but with all the sad news out there (wars, etc), it does not help. If are able to "shut your brain off" at bedtime. If you have tried that and it didn't help, then you are better off not watching the news on tv or reading the paper.

No necessarily, but let me example when it can. Lets say you seeing this guy you really love now and you are very serious, but he lately start giving you hints that make you wonder if he is cheating. You stress over it a lot, because that all you thinking about and here you watching a movie where a guy actually cheats on his girlfriend. That possibly may give you even more ideas and keep diggin in oyur brain and you become depressed.

Yes, they never report any good, happy news. They think people want to hear about other people killing their children or having their houses burned down or getting shot coming out of the movie theater.

watching the news could make anyone depressed.but if you cant
seem to shake the depression then talking to a doc is a really
good idea.start with your regular dr. and tell her/him.what is going
on.they are the best first place to start.

bad news = mixed emotions and sadness...and giving yourself those sad emotions everyday your body will become accostumed to it... however, i dont think that the serverity of it will lead to full blown depression.
