My mother gave me her old computer which has windows 98. I don't really need it for anything but internet and downloading music. Maybe the MS Office programs. I would like to completely restart from scratch and delete all of the garbage she has on it. Is there any way of doing that without the start up disk or going through it program by program in the uninstall function?

Windows 98 is no longer supported by Microsoft. IF the computer can handle it, get an OEM copy of Win XP. You would need to know some of the stats of the computer to compare to XP's minimum requirements. Right-click "My Computer" and choose Properties for some info on the system. And if you can't find "My Computer", go to Settings...Control Panel...and click on "System"
