Tell me, why don't you believe in God.
And don't tell me "evolution", that doesn't disprove his existence.

An atheist is defined in two senses: Someone who says he believes there is no God, and someone who simply lacks belief in God. An atheist cannot say he knows there is no God, because he would have to know all things in order to know if there is or isn't a God. If he says he believes there is no God, ask him why he believes that way, and begin there. If he says he lacks belief in God, then ask what he does believe in, and start there. I always get around to the question of, "How did we get here?" Since creation and evolution are the only options, I have something further to work with.
Evolution has a lot of problems with it. It seems to me that it takes a lot of faith to believe that you developed out of ocean slime, simply by chance. At least as a Christian I have the evidence of the resurrection of Christ from eye witnesses as recorded by them in the gospels. Evolution or not, Jesus rose from the dead, said He was God, and forgave sins. I'll put my faith in Him instead of evolution.
An agnostic says he doesn't know if there is or isn't a God. (Usually after saying this I challenge them to explain the prophecies of the Old Testament fulfilled in the New. I state how the Bible is unique that way, and that only God can make prophecies that are 100% accurate. Then I ask him to explain how that could be done if there is no God.)
If there is no God as you say, then in the end I lose nothing. But if there is a God like I say, in the end you lose everything.
Why don't you believe in God? Is there any reason for you to intelligently reject His existence? Or, do you simply desire not to believe in Him?
The Bible doesn't attempt to prove that God exists. It simply speaks as though He does. Maybe I can't prove to you there is a God, but I can introduce Him to you through His Son Jesus Christ, and you can judge for yourself if the Words of Christ in the Bible convince you of His existence.
(Note: We exist. How did we get here? An atheist's only option would be to say evolution. If you study evolution, by reading Christian books that reveal and document its many serious problems, then you will be able to weaken the atheist's belief in it. The logic is simple: If evolution and creation are the only options, to remove one is to support the other. Therefore, learn as much as you can about evolution. Your witness will be greatly strengthened.
However, evolution does not explain the origin of life, only its development. Discussions on origins of life are interesting in themselves.)

Again??? The same question??? We must have answered it at least 20 times!...Do you Christians know how to read?;)...

Ok, let's set the record straight one more time;)...The most logic answer to your unlogic question would be: 'Why would we believe in God??'...However, today I'm in a good mood, so, I'll be good to you;)...

History, Archaeology, Epigraphy, Philology and Science brought forward enough evidence to dismiss the existance of 'God'. The concept of a single male deity dates back to the 6th Century BC, when Israelites were captives in Babylon (does it ring any bell?;), and was made up with the intent to unify all the scattered tribes, and weaken the prominent role of 'females' had had till then. Polytheism was still alive until that very moment and actually YHWH was only one of the several worshipped deities, and worshipped by a minority. The Bible, is NOT an ORIGINAL work: it's a re-arranged compilation of stories dating back to thousands of years earlier and told originally by the Sumerians who inscrşpted them on clay tablets around 5000 BC. Anyone who read those clay tablets know without the slightest doubt that the Bible was not only written by MEN, but that was also a simple re-collection of ancient texts; the ORIGINAL story, told by the Sumerians, talks about many Lords and Ladies come down to Earth, and actually the Bible 'God', is nothing but 'Enlil' = 'Lord of the Command', who's never been neither immortal nor omnipotent;)...The Annunaki( Those who from Heaven came to Earth) life span was simply much longer than ours, so, the concept of immortality related to deities was just a consequence of that extremely long life span.

The fact that EVERY ancient religion was Politheistic, simply dismisses the idea of a SINGLE deity, and shows how artificial that concept is. It'd be too long to go into details now, however, feel free to contact me if you wish, so that I can explain to you evey single evidence, and show you how the Bible makes sense ONLY if read in its original context;) I may also explain the missing link to you, or who Jesus really was, or even why the Biblical God tells Moses to circumcise all the males, or even where did the 7 days count originally come from, or, even the real 'rib' story... THE TRUTH, AND ALL ITS DETAILS, LIE JUST BEFORE YOUR EYES, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TO READ IT...Peace.

This is the easiest question ever. You mention proof - give me some. If you can prove there is a god, I'll believe. You cannot do this and as the universe shows no need for a god, there is no reason to think for a second that there is one.

If you're talking about the Christian god in particular, then I can expand on this argument - your god is cruel and illogical. When Christian groups attack science because it doesn't match their viewpoints, you know that either the religion is wrong, or that a large number of its followers do not understand it properly. Neither is a good advertisement for belief.

Because despite containing a creation story, your religion is pre-dated by several other early societies. That's right! Western religion was *created* by humans quite a long time after the beginning of our planet's life.

Because whilst there is no way to *disprove* the existence of *A* god, that is not a convincing reason for belief. For one, it is impossible to disprove the existence of the Invisible Pink Unicorn, but that does not constitute a proof for the existence of that creature. And secondly, making a conclusion as to *which* god may or may not exist can be seen as nothing but pure, wishful thinking.

Because the god of western religion is supposedly kind and well-disposed, yet by all biblical accounts is responsible for thousands upon thousands of deaths compared to satan's around-a-dozen kill count.

Because - wait, we're judged for the things we do by the person who, by your belief, created us with the predisposition to do those things? Nothing could be so unjust.

Because I've never met a religious scientist who was any good at science.

Because gods have always been believed in as an alternative to actually understanding a natural phenomenon such as the rain, the stars, fire, things going missing, death, birth, and wind. Yours is no different.

But most of all, because I've actually bothered to think about it.

For the same reason I don't believe in Sasquatch, alien abductions, magic, homeopathic medicine, ESP, ghosts, leprechauns, unicorns... need I go on?

What if I said that there is a magical fairy that crawls out of my anus while I sleep and cleans my room? Would you believe that just because I said so? Of course not, you'd want some proof.

Should you have to prove to me that my fairy doesn't exist? No, since I'm the one making the claim, I'm the one who needs to provide the evidence.

If you want to claim that some extraordinary thing exists, you'd better have an extraordinary amount of evidence that proves it. Until you do, there's no reason why anyone should believe you.

Nobody has told me that evolution is what makes God not exist.... I dont believe in any religion but i am open to ideas there might be something out there that might be greater. There is no evidence that he does and if you say read the Bible then that is no evidence either.

1) the bible is wrong - I dont need one group telling me "this bit is true, but this bit is only an allegory" - it either all stands or it all falls together. And, quite obviously, it falls at the very first book, Genesis.
2) too many sects, cults and religions say they have the truth - but all have different ideas about what is valid and what is not valid
3) too much hatred based on religion - hatred of jews, roman catholics, gays, and a million and one other groups.
4) too many gods pre-date and post-date your particular Mithras knock-off (thats jesus, for all you ignorant red neck southern baptists)
5) religions deliberately spreading ignorance and (knowingly) lying. creationism, aids/condoms, sexual preferences, etc, etc

I could go on.. How much of this are you going to read DEARY? I doubt any of it will penetrate past your thick skull, anyway

IF there is a god, then why should we Atheists need to prove to you that there isn't one? Do you question your own belief? If god exists, why should it be necessary for his/her followers to ram it down our throats, we (Atheists) don't go around telling everyone that they need proof of such a thing before believing. So why do religious nuts think that everyone must have 'the word spread' about a 'fictional' leader. Just get on with your thoughts and leave others to theirs.

Personally, I can't believe in something until I am CERTAIN it exists. In Christianity, several parts of the bible were written hundreds of years after the actual or 'so-called' event(s) took place, so in essence, most of it will probably be very inaccurate, with parts added onto stories as they are passed from one generation to another, and some completly forgotten or destroyed as the authors simply don't like them!!
I will NEVER believe in God until there is some ACTUAL proof to show his existence, and so far there has been nothing at all!!
Good day

Basically, there is no evidence that god exists. And if you have to rely on a series of notes written by relatively uneducated humans up to 2000 years ago on which to base your faith, it is on pretty shaky ground. The difference lies in why we believe what we believe. If you are a theist, you believe in God because someone else has told you that God exists. All babies are born with no beliefs and are taught to believe in things. That’s why babies born in the Middle East are likely to grow up Muslim, babies born in Mexico are likely to be Catholic, and babies born in Utah are likely to be Mormon. They are handed their beliefs by the people around them. It’s not that the evidence for Islam is more compelling in Iraq than it is in Utah, it’s just that if you are raised in Iraq you are likely to only be exposed to information about Islam. If you are raised in Salt Lake City you are likely to be inundated with primarily Mormon messages and culture. Additionally, you are not likely to question something that everyone around you believes. Could all of the people you respect and love be wrong? Well, all of the differing religions can’t be right, so a good chunk of the world’s population has it wrong. But not you, right?

I believe what I believe because I have been honest with myself about the problems in the Bible. I have exposed myself to all of the arguments and evidence I could find and I drew an honest conclusion. I did not choose to be an atheist. I am an atheist because by definition I do not believe God exists. I couldn’t make a decision to start believing in God any more than you could make a decision to start believing in Santa Claus. We don’t get to choose what we believe, only what evidence we look at and what we do with our beliefs.

I am 57 years old I have studied religion now for 30 years and have yet to find any proof that God exists. All I find are 2000 year old myths and stories about miracles that dont happen anymore. I have researched many different religions and find that all I get are churches that charge thier members a fee(tithe) so they can have big beautiful buildings or cults that are too scary for words. No real proof. Ill tell you what you prove that God exists and Ill believe but see you cant prove it either so....
