Tell them exactly what you want. Bring pictures with you to illustrate your desires.

Ask someone whose hair you like where they get it done. Referrals are a great way to find an experience and competent stylist. They are professionals, they know how to do it.

For hair colouring....you have to take the risk.

You have to trust your stylist, and in order to do that, you should get a good one first. You might have to pay more, but do take note of how the stylist takes care with doing hair.

Last week, I had my hair coloured at a small salon that charged 70 dollars. It was the whole head. The lady did a horrible job, and she didn't even cover up the previous highlights and stuff,

Today, I went to a proper salon in a good mall to cut my hair, and I saw other people getting their hair coloured. Whoa! The stylists were taking such care. They did it in strands and took a long time, but made sure everything was perfect.

It was fabulous, and they only charged 100 dollars. Frankly, it was so silly to get that nut job from the cheaper salon.

Pay a little more, observe how good stylists are and then you still have to take that little chance.

You say you want your Highlights out? and you say you have never colored your hair? How did you get the highlights in the first Place? Have your hair dresser go thru your hair with foils and go over the highlighted areas with a shade lighter than your natural hair color...That should blend it to the shade you most likely want.....

As a hair stylist....here's what I suggest....bring in pictures, of highlights you like, and ones you don't like. Know what color or colors you want...but be prepared to hear different suggestions from your stylist, she or he will know what colors are going to work best with your hair and skin coloring. If you don't have a stylist you regularly go to, ask around for names of a few good ones (find people who have hair you love, and ask who does their hair). Once you find someone, if you like him/her....stick with that person....over time we get to know our clients likes and dislikes and it makes it easier when you go in for a touch up on your roots to go back to the same person as they have the correct color formula on file. Most importantly though....if you don't like what gets done...speak up, there are lots of ways to fix what you think may be a huge problem. Don't spend the money to go somewhere else without talking to the stylist who did your hair....and possibly the salon manager if you have to go that far.
