There is no Federally mandated waiting period. The State of Washington does have a five date waiting period. It really has nothing to do with a background check; that's all done on the computer and does not take anymore time than the federal check takes. It is just a way for the state to control more of your life by unconvincing you.

Check with the NRA website for the laws in various states, or call your local district attorney's office. There is NOT a federal 5-day wait. There is an instant check system that usually runs slow, but in civilized states you can buy a handgun and take possession on the same day. Long guns are immediate and require no permits, except as determined by STATE law.

There may be a five day waiting period mandated by the STATE, there is no federal waiting period. That went away a few years ago and insta-check came in. Here in New Mexico I can buy a handgun and walk right out of the store with it

Yes, for Washington state residents who don't hold a concealed-carry permit, there is a five-day waiting period on purchasing handguns, to permit a state background check to be run, on top of the instant Federal background check.

The first answerer must not be up to date on ALL state laws. Here in Ohio they do an "instant" check on the phone and if it comes back clear you take the handgun with you then and there.
To see laws for your state, or check other states, go to the link below.

save guy develop into basically giving you his interpretation, or his bosses interpretation of the regulation consistent with, particularly, no longer something. All weapons rules on the age of possession or purchase particularly say that is advisable to no longer be below 18 or 21. they do no longer say that is advisable to be OVER 18. on the day your DL says you're 18 you're 18 and longer below 18, there fore you need to purchase a gun or the different grownup particular purchase. don't think me, try committing against the regulation on the morning of your 18th and then try claiming juvenile status

That's federal law, it's a mandated 5 day waiting period to pick it up while they run the background checks... doesn't matter what state you live in.
Washington state is SO DAMN easy to get a CCW license in... try here, it takes about a year... if you get it at all! I LOVE NY! :}~
ps- The answer below me? BULLSHIT. If you take it out of the store, and the check comes back bad, THEY will call you and want that gun back. No gun dealer I know of will let it out the door instantly, not if he has any sense. I do know two that got in a a world of hurt with the BATFE because they let them walk "instantly"....
