If you have extremely thick, wavy and frizzy hair like I do, all straighteners do NOT work the same way.
At first, I bought a $20 straightener and it barely even worked at all. I had to run the thing through a section of hair 10 times before it got perfectly straight, and even then it didn't last long.
I think its ridiculous for people who's hair is already pretty straight to buy a $200 Chi...but for someone like me who's natural hair is VERY thick and frizzy, a Chi is necessary. I would never be able to use a Revlon hair straightener because I would have to use it so often and it would damage my hair.
So, as I stated before, all straighteners certainly don't straighten the same. It might seem that way for someone who doesn't NEED a good straightener...but that's definitely not true for someone like me.

The people who are obsessed with expensive straighteners probably don't even care about the hair, they just want to be cool.
I have a CHI, but the only reason i have one is because i have tried several straighteners, and none of them have worked well for me. They either pull out my hair, or burn it or don't even straighten well enough. I have extremely damaged hair, which is why i use a chi. because it has heat protection.

Because all straighteners are not the same. Heat controls are different....Ceramic vs metal....Ionic vs non....ability to use wet vs not....there are a lot of things that can make a straightener more expensive. Ever wonder why when you go to a salon and get your hair straightened it looks so good? Not only is it the product the stylist used on you....it's the quality of the flat iron. I have extrememly curly hair for a white chick....believe me, I've tried what seems like a million flat irons....they are not all the same.

my straightener cost €10 and its as good as my friend's ghd which cost like €90...it takes a little more time to get my hair perfectly straight but in the end, I get the same result so I don't really mind

I agree! I paid $10-15 for mine back when I was in high school and I'm now 20 and it still works perfectly. Lets all be practical here and attempt to be somewhat conservative.

yeah, its kinda weird, but everyone has SOME sort of odd obsession. for example, i am obsessed w/ pink elephants. don't ask. certain people like certain things. it could be that they just feel a need to spend their money on expensive hair straighteners.

not exacly. the more expensive ones can just wear the name [brand] and not straighten well but most of em do straighten better. the cheap ones cand burn your hair and eventually by repeating this your can stop growing [i have a friend whose hair stopped growing because of this reason]

Honestly, sometimes the more expensive the more affective they are! I have curly/frizzy hair and I have a cheepish straightner... My hair stays straight for about 15mins then *poof! I used a really expencive 1 once and my hair was dead straght ALL DAY! it was fabulous! Altho i cant afford it, i want it! we all want wat we dont have. I want straight hair = buy the expencive straightner
Voila!

People like to get expensive things so they can BRAG. Half the time its never even about how well it works. Just the fact they can go around saying they have something you don't.

I know! it's really stupid, but it depends on how the company promote their product I guess, and if they're a big, well know company they can charge more. Why are people obsessed??? Because they're being scammed!
