Hi Thailand folks. My friend is thinking about taking a job in Prachin Buri, about 40 or so km northeast of Bangkok. We are only finding a tiny bit about it online, nobody we know has much info. Do any of you? Peanutz, I asked for you 'cause you have great answers :) If you've been there, what do you think of it for a single, 27 year old girl with only an elemantary grip on the language? Thanks!

I know you're not asking me, but I thought I'd put my 2 cents worth in anyway. I have a business interest in the Prachinburi area so I have visited Prachinburi often over the past seven years. You are apparently a western person (as am I) and the few ex-pats I know who live in the area are men with Thai wives. I don't know of any western women who live there. There is very little English spoken. Many don't even speak Thai to one another; they speak Isan (Laotian) informally, but all do speak Thai. You're a young woman. I assume you would not like to give up your social life. Meeting Thai men is very difficult, not only because of the language difference, but they are also very shy when it comes to meeting western women. You would most likely have to make the first move. Prachinburi itself has very little nightlife to offer. There is a kind of fun restaurant and bar with an American cowboy theme in Kabinburi, which isn't too far, called Home Sweet Home. There are also many resorts in the area, but not that close. You'd need private transportation to get to just about anything. Peanutz mentioned PB Winery in the Khao Yai area--I always pick up a case of their very good Shiraz when I'm in that area, but the winery is not close to the city either. I drive, so I don't pay much attention to the public transportation, but all I've noticed are tuk tuks and busses in Prachinburi. The nearest western-type market, other than convenience stores, that I know about is Makro that just opened up in Sakaeo. I live in Bangkok because I'm not a country boy and I would go crazy if I lived there. There is simply not that much there that suits my western tastes. I enjoy going there for a break, however. Anyway, good luck to you. Oh yes, Prachinburi is not 40 km. from Bangkok--it's more like 150.

Hi Lil Sammy, thanks for your compliments, I do feel awkward if I cannot answer you well! You are putting me under pressure.

Prachin Buri is abit out of the main stream routes. It is more of Parks and resorts location, being close to Wang Nam Khieo of Nakhon Ratchasima. What is also established there are a few vineyards, producing Thai wines. For a start, there is PB Winery and Village Farm Winery. Both do have resort stay too. So is your friend interested in this field?

On a recent trip, notice there were a couple of other vineyards sprouting out around there too. So looks like the place is potentially flourishing as wine-producing province.

You can email me at thaitourinfo@yahoo.com if you want other info on that place. Thanks again.
