shot placement is everything with this caliber. you can cleanly take a coyote with a 22lr. however, bullet selection should be limited to only the highest velocity offerings ie stinger or thunderbolt. your range will be limited to about 75 yds or less. any shots further than this probably won't kill the animal right away.even nussiance animals don't deserve that. i would personally go with a 22mag or one of the new 17 chamberings. if purchasing a new gun is not an option at this time, hunt with the one you've got. just try to keep shots as close as possible, even if this means letting one walk.

In some circumstances it maye be able to kill a coyote, but it doesn't have enough knockdown power for sure. For closer shots you'd be better off with a .223. For longer shots a .22-250 or .243. The .22-250 is an all around favorite.

People have used the .22 LR for years to kill coyotes. It is not my first choice but they do work especially with high speed hollow-point ammo. If you're buying one specifically for coyotes, then I'd get the .22 Magnum.

Of the 2 you have mentioned the 22 mag is the better of the 2. Too much of a footrace if you use a 22lr. In rimfire, better yet is the 17 HMR. It is much more devastating than the 22 MAG, even thought the bullets are lighter. Barring real heavy winds, the 17 HMR is good out to 150 yards

It is not my first choice, but I have hunted with lots of people who have killed coyotes with a .22. I killed a German Shepard with a .22 and they are roughly the same size as coyote.

I've done it on a few different occaisions. I was, however, loaded with cci stingers at the time. If I was out on a dog hunt, I wouldn't use my .22 as my first choice of weaponry, but yes, the .22 will do the job in a pinch.

Yes but placement of the shot is everything, if you use a 40 grain remmington bullet it will take the coyote down but you will have to be close or fire more than one shot.

no, because a 22 shell will ricoche around the head u need to step up to a 243 or a 244, otherwise the coyote will suffer

Yes it will but only if you hit him right. I've seen people kill white tail deer with a .22lr but you need to hit him in eye or ear area.
