I am an American living in Tunisia and I love Tunisia very much! The country is so full of history (has been under the rule of Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Berbers, Ottomans, Beys, and French; played a significant part in WWII, was the center of the ancient world with Carthage as the capitol, etc) and it has so many beautiful places to visit! It is unlike any other Arab country in that is has a lot of greenery. There are also many historical ruins in just about every part of the country you go to.
The mountain region is breathtaking! There are fantastic views and an the atmosphere is reminiscent of an old town in Switzerland. Absolutely gorgeous! The coast is marvelous. The Sea is clear and picturesque. The midland and south are terrific because they offer you the chance to peek into a forgotten society - one that holds fast to tradition. I have been all over Tunisia and have visited most cities and have loved everyone because they each have their own special charm.
The people are so warm and hospitable. They instantly welcome you as one of their own and treat you like family. Tunisia is also a very safe place. There are not many places in this world where a women can walk the streets alone in the middle of the night without fear. Yet I often take late night walks and have never had any problems and have never felt fearful.
Tunisia on a whole is a very safe country. I have lived in Tunis and Monastir and have visited other parts of the country without any problem. I do advise normal safety rules that are applicatable elsewhere, such as not dressing provocatively and to be aware of your surroundings.
If you tell me what city you are looking to visit I could tell you some neat places to visit and some things that you might enjoy in that city. I'm including some links to pictures and blogs that I have on Tunisia, so you can get a better sense of the country.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.

not at all true. I went last year and it was brilliant. I can't recommend it enough. You do have to be a bit savvy when shopping! don't look at goods on display or show any interest in buying anything until the last day of your Holiday. The cheapest place to buy stuff (and the place with least hastle) is actually the airport I found! The country gets much more beautiful and interesting as you travel south. Matmata where starwars was filmed is worth visiting as is the Sahara desert (go to Douz) use luage to travel, they are cheaper and because they are used primarily by locals, do not attract hawkers and salesmen!!! enjoy! and take a French phrasebook, nobody speaks English!!

I went there two years ago and stayed in an all inclusive resort with my daughter and grandson........we were hungry and went out of the resort to find some decent food!! And yes, we got harassed all the time. The bedding in our room was filthy and we changed rooms on the first night. They say Tunisia is the next Turkey as far as Tourism is concerned. They need to understand that they must to cater for the Tourists we are not all Muslims. I'm afraid i won't go back there.

Depends where you go. In tourist traps the hawkers and guides can be a real pain. Some even chase after you on scooters so you are not even safe in a hire car.
Watch out for the crafty blokes pretending to be parking attendants who try to charge tourists for parking on the street.
In other areas you have warm friendly people and beautiful countryside.

Every country in the world is worth visiting, it just depends on what you are into and how open minded you are, not your own nationality.
