It depends on what state your in. Some states allow it, and some don't. Make sure your aware of which ones do and don't while driving. There are usually signs that say No radar detectors.

each state has different laws concerning radar detectors. if you do find that it is illegal in your state, a c.b. radio is always handy, just ask the truckers coming from the opposite direction if every thing's clear of cops (they call them bears in trucker talk). also, you don't have to get one of those redneck looking antennas, you can buy very discreet ones at radio shack and on line that look just like cell-phone antennas.

In some states, it is illegal to use one. It is NOT illegal to HAVE one. But in states where the use is illegal, it must be turned off.
