Turn it into a pony. Sorry, couldn't resist!
It's hoarse for a reason. If the reason is a mild infection (laryngitis), the best thing to do is to rest, drink plenty of fluids, take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug like Motrin or Naprosyn, and talk as little as possible. Talking with laryngitis can permanently damage the vocal cords.

A hoarse throat could be due a soreness in the throat.Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Is it long term or short term? If it's just from yelling at a concert or something. Just rest your voice for a day. It'll get better. If it's been hoarse for over a week or so, see your doctor. You may have acid reflux. I get hoarse pretty easy so I've had to do both.

Gargle with salt water. Drink tea with honey and lemon. Or my Mom's favorite...warm Dr. Pepper with lemon.

Try some hot tea with honey and lemon. Lozenges work too. You can get those at your local pharmacy.
