Canola oil is regularly marketed as a vegetable oil. Although we don't eat canola (since it's a grass), if we did, it would indeed be a vegetable.
Sunflower, canola, peanut, olive...they all have the same chemical properties in recipes. In fact, you can sub applesauce for oil in some cases and get basically the same effect in baking, though it will take a bit longer to cook. If you use a vegetable oil, use olive. It's the "healthiest" oil, and the only one with fats that your body will use to make things other than fat.

Canola oil IS vegetable oil. It is healthier than many other vegetable oils that are available so it is my main cooking oil, other
than olive oil--which I use for Italian food and Virgin olive oil for salads, because canola oil does have a little taste of its own. I
cook and bake a lot and I do use it for baking and have never had
any problems with it in baking. For deep frying, which I do not do
often anymore, I do prefer peanut oil because of a lower smoking point and also great taste, which is also why I use it in my wok, but when I am out of peanut oil, I use canola and it is Ok. Hope that this helped----maggie (Irv's wife)

I use only canola & olive oil & I have never had a problem with it. And we are a large family of 10. I cook & bake pretty much everyday. I have never had a complaint or noticed anything wrong with the switch. And these oils are more heart healty. So cook & enjoy.

Fergie's right. I would just add that when you use olive oil for baking, you probably want to use a light oil as opposed to EV because the flavor that you get from the EV may be a little strong for sweet baked goods.

I've been using canola oil for years and have never had any difficulty with any recipes I've used it in. You might take note it is actually better for you fat wise.

In the superstore, fruits are usually picked out far too soon. Some are rocks, many are wrong. Some of the fresh vegetables are right (zucchini, onions, garlic, lettuce, greens, and a few others) so I'd have to go with vegetables.
