What are the maintenance cost in the U.S. on the 2004+ Volvo S40? I was looking at Audi and BMW but they have such high costs if parts get broken, and things do go wrong fairly easily on those brands I've heard. I've also heard that Volvos last forever, so let me know maintenance and repair costs and dependability.

Volvos do not "last forever" since they are now owned by Ford.

7.5k - $190
15k - $295
22.5k - $190
30k - $560
37.5k - $295
45k - $295
52.5k - $190
60k - $670

Those are the costs for regular services. You can expect in 60k to replace 2 sets of front brakes ($495 each) as well as a rear set of brakes ($495 also). More than likely you will need to flush the coolant ($160), power steering ($140), transmission ($180), and fuel injection system ($180) as well.

NOTE. They will not run forever. Trust me. I work as a service advisor at a Volvo dealership. Purchase an extended warranty to cover those high cost repairs that might spring up past 50-60k.
