GLOCK 19.

It's concealable yet still holds 15+1 rounds, and you can have G17 17 round mags for reloads. It's 9mm so ammo is plentiful and cheap. The slide will go forward on its own when you jam a new mag in. It just feels good and I'm pretty accurate with it, usually getting IDPA scores in the top 1/2-1/3, even against some of the top guys in the state. I've put 3,000 rounds through mine with only 1 jam. I love it.

According to almost all professional firearms evaluators, both commercial and independent, the best 9mm auto on the market is the H-K USP in 9mm. This weapon has the highest evaluated score in all endurance tests, with the LOWEST rate of malfunctions and system failures of any commercially avaiable semi-auto pistol on the market today. The ONLY reasons it is not more popular than other 9mm's is its' much higher price tag and its' lower market availabity.
And NO, the Navy Seals do NOT use SIG 9mm's, all Seal units are currently equipped with H-K 23 SOCOM's in .45ACP w/suppressor units, an advanced model derived from the original H-K USP design.

The SIG P226 is an outstanding handgun. It is extremely well made and ultra reliable and normally quite accurate. However shootability is a subjective thing. What fits my hands may not fit yours. I also prefer a single action auto because no other trigger in any other action is as controlable.

Also look at the Para-Ordanance P-18. This is a 1911 format 9MM. It is a single action auto that holds 18+1 rounds of 9MM. These are big pistols but the grip is only 1/4" bigger around than a standard 1911 in .45ACP.

But unless you are committed to putting in significant range time to learn the manual of arms for a 1911 type pistol, look to either a double action, double action only or striker fired auto. The single action auto is as safe as any but you really must put in your time with it.

Good luck

The P08 Luger.
Why an obsolete antique?
It has subatantial collector value.
9mm does not impress me as a personal defense handgun round, a law enforcement handgun round, or a military handgun round.
It's best use is as a submachinegun round, where its low recoil in a fast cycling weapon makes up for it's marginal performance.
Luger pistols are elegantly styled pieces of history who's value will continue to increase forever.

Three-way TIE for this one

Glock 17/19 . HK USP. FN-BROWNING HP

Leave it to the Euros for a good 9mm.
I left out the SigP210 because of its outrageous price and low volume of manufacture. The Glock and HK has polygonal barrels that increase velocity and also have the best controls for polymer guns. The FNBHP is a classic in it's own right and if you need an introduction than you are definitely a newbie.

The best 9mm handguns are probably expensive for the average person. For a lower cost gun, I like the Ruger p89, which I own. I am considering buying the Glock 17 or 19.

My favorite pistol is the Sig Sauer in .40, but the 9mm is great too. The Sigs are just too expensive for my budget.

That all depends on what your are buying it for. Are you using it to conceal on your person or in your vehicle. Are you planning on shooting competition with it. How large is your budget. What state do you live in (CA has a ten round law, if I only get ten rounds it'll be .45 no 9mm). Need to decide what your primary need for the weapon is and then determine what gun fits that need in your price range. However, I own two 9mm. A glock 19 with a 17round mag and 33round mag that is a car gun and Taurus PT111 that stays in my pocket. Both are reasonably priced and meet my needs. (I also carry a Colt 1911)

It would have to be the Springfield XD...it is the gun of the year two years in a row. Right out of the box it is super accurate (it will make anyone fell like the sundance kid). When you buy it, it comes with a holster, 2 15rd mags, a mag holster, and a easy loader. Plus it has out preformed the glock in every test. While they were testing it they had it so hot that they couldn't touch the trigger with bare flesh but it was still shooting accurate. Plus, unlike the glock, it fells great in the hand and something you can hold right.

CZ 75b - alot of competition shooters use it. It's all steel, full size, and weighes 2.2 pounds. Almost no felt recoil to speak of, and reliable as all get out. It holds 16 in the mag, and will feed any ammo I give it. The stainless ones are pretty. Its only drawbacks are that some find it too heavy and bulky for CCW and holsters can be hard to find. I have to agree. If you want to carry 9mm concealed, get a Glock 19.

Browning Hi-Power also gets many nods from Europellet lovers...

The best all around .9mm is the Glock Model 19 with night sights. It is user friendly, high capacity, accurate, durable and dependable.
