I would suggest always using a soft kleenex, as a cloth hanky will hang on to those germs. Even when I see older men use the same hanky over and over again makes me ill just thinking about all the germs on it.
Defintiely stay away from the hanky. Stick with kleenex and be sure to toss the used kleenex in the garbage when finished with it. Wash your hands regularily to keep the germs to a minimum and from spreading to anyone else. Hope this helps and you feel better soon!

Oh the modern crap. Cloth hanky is the best for cold because you can really clean your nose very hard . Regarding the infection it has already creeped in and that is why you are having cold and no further infections could take place. Only thing is carry a big hanky so that there would be ample dry space for you to dab you nose every time. The puff cannot clear the nose completely and deeply and you will feel uncomfortable and have to use it more frequently than the cloth hanky.

Ok.. here's my outlook on it.
Puffs will better for not spreading around the cold and getting rid of the mucus.
Your grandma is probably saying a cloth hanky because its what she used. Its less wasteful to the environment. But it will carry many many germs around.
I myself would use puffs.

A cloth hanky is like carrying the germs around in your pocket. Use the puffs, and throw them away each time. Sorry, grandma is not always right.

The best thing to use is a puff. A cloth hanky will carry and spread germs each time you use it if you don't wash your hands after each use. Disposable is the way to go to keep germs at a minimum.

Cloth hankies, while they do carry germs, you would be doing your part to reduce unnecessary paper waste. That is a better practice for all of us, as our landfills are becoming a troubling problem.
If you are worried about the germs, buy several hankies and wash them after use.
