PAXIL is an SSRI, which has been known to decrease your sex drive. Wellbutrin is advertised as an anti-depressive that does not affect sex drive. Ultimately, you need to work with your doctor to find the best treatment for your illness.

You may also look into ways to treat the problem medically, such as with Viagra (whose effects in woman have not been thoroughly studied). Additionally, if you're still depressed, that alone can have an effect on your desire to have sex.

Paxil will decrease sexual drive. My ex-husband took Paxil for a few months and we noticed that he had no interest in sex at all. When we tried, he had a hard time keeping an erection. So I do believe that Paxil played a big role in that. Shortly after he stopped taking Paxil, he got his sex drive back. Talk to your Doctor about prescribing a new anti-depressant medication that will not interfere with sexual dysfunction. Good luck to you and your fiance.

I am a 49 year old male; I have taken Paxil for about ten years, I didn't really notice if Paxil changed my sex drive or not, but it was a little less than it used to be when I was younger. I stopped taking Paxil and my sex drive increased dramatically--it actually surprised me. I told my doctor about it and she said, "that's not unusual for somebody withdrawing from Paxil."

I took Paxil years ago and like everyone else says, it's a killer forh sex and orgasms. Paxil is one of the worst when it comes to sex issues, withdrawal, side effects etc. I noticed improvement when I went to Wellbutrin and had the best experiences on Effexor XR. Paxil is older than the other 2 mentioned (like Prozac) so I think they did enough research to ease that unfortunate symptom.

WOW - i'm just the person to help you with this !!
I have severe depression ...been on paxil for years ....love it ...helps my dep. ....but YES YES YES ....kills the orgasms !!
I completely understand how u feel - it's annoying when you want to "get off" ....try so hard ...but then you can't !
You can switch ...but all meds. are not the same ..i tried Zoloft and prozac ....hated both ...made me worse mentally ! I ended up really putting my mind to it (having orgasms) ...as sex is all in the head .....and eventually it worked well for me ...took longer but both of us were still pleased !
Talk more about this with ur doc .....sexual disfunction is one of paxils side- affects .....it's awful ...but i really needed my mental health ! Good luck - sorry i can't help you more ....but i DEFINETELY sympathize !! Good luck to the both of you ! If she loves you ...she will work with you ..not against you ! : )

Over the last five years I had begun to have increasingly withdraw into a downward spiral of depression..

But now with the method I can fully focus my energy and thoughts into a decisive line on how to make my life better constantly. And it works like magic! I'm beginning to attract people to me once again and things have just been looking up since then.

Helping you eliminate depression?

Unfortunately all anti presents will EFT you sex drive to some degree. However you can ask your Dr. for an alternative med such as Viagra which will not effect your other meds.

Yes it has severe sexual side effects...

Almost all of them do.

Strange how drugs meant for people who are considered weird or mentally ill, prevent you from wanting to do the one thing that leads to having children... Not to mention almost all of them make you fat too... Obese, if not careful with diet and exersize.

Things that make you go hmmm? Then the doctors just tell you to deal... I ask you, How is getting fat and not being able to have sex, helpful to a persons state of mental health?

I hate pharmaceuticals!

Try Sam-e instead if you are not Bi polar or Manic.

Depression affects your sex drive first of all! Making sure you follow up with your psychologist/psychiatrist to see what makes you feel down and help heal your old wounds should be your focus point. It takes time and efforts but it's worth it!
