Well in North America at least there really isn't a professional league. At least for court anyway. The closest thing to professional play in North America is the AVP tour. I don't know how you would be able to get involved with the AVP because I live in Canada so I don't here anything about that. http://avpnext.com/Organization.aspx this site has contact info for all the States if they have an organization. The next step up would be playing for your age group's national team. Which could come out of playing at a big name college or university.

You need also some physical qualities...I mean your heigh. And then, if you are technically good, a professional team will ask you to play. Of course, I hope you are already playing in a not professional team...if not, do it, waiting for becoming a professional player! And if your passion for volleyball is so great, doesn't matter which team you are playing with. Enjoy yourself playing volleyball!

first of all, the only way to play volleyball as a career is to play beach volleyball and win prize money or you could be sponsored by a sporting company and do commercials. if volleyball becomes a national sport like the NFL then you can make money if you play for that league. check out http://www.usavolleyball.org/

Practice
Go to camps
Get recruited by a Div 1 school (college)
Get an All American nod
Have a team from over seas contact you to play in a league (that is where the pro teams are)
Oh - it helps to be over 6' (women) or 6'5" (men) a lot. It is the thing to be tall now.
