Depends on what your changing, might be ok, or may leave your without an operating operating system. Before you try changing values, as with any changes you make on computer, be sure you have computer backed up so you can recover from a mistake without losing any data.

If you *know* what you are doing it's not totally dangerous.
If you change things without understanding what you are doing you are extremely likely to have a computer that won't boot up and will require the OS repairing or reinstalling.
If you change things and understand what you are doing it can also cause problems if your understanding is wrong or your computer is running a different version or if your computer happens to crash while you are working because the power goes...
That is why the advice about registry editing is that before you do it you should make sure that your system recovery diskette is up to date and that you have a copy of the registry elsewhere. Then you have a chance if something happens of being able to recover instead of reinstall everything.

Registry Mechanic software does a good job of maintaining the registry on a PC. Changing the registry can get you into trouble, so it's recommended that your sure you know what your doing.

Just do not change any registry values, unless you exactly know what is going to happen after you change them.
